I'm not sure what worth there is in quoting this summers signings when our problems are pretty widely thought to have started before that but what interests me more is why you've left out the summer of zero, you know, the summer we made footballing history by signing absolutely nobody, an act of negligence bordering on the staggering.

It was pretty widely condemned at the time and those chickens are coming home to roost, the effect of that fuck-up should not be underestimated.

The point I was making when highlighting the 2017 window as well as the one just gone is that we do spend money on incomings, we just didn't the summer 2018 when ultimately the Grealish deal flopped.

Liverpool this summer went out and spent £1.2m, do you think people will hammer them for doing so? There's a new feeling in football that you need to spend and you need to spend big to freshen things up, I personally don't believe that's the case but each to their own.

In the 2017/18 window we signed 6 new players (Lucas, Aurier, Sanchez, Foyth, Llorente, Gazzaniga), this season we've signed 4 so 10 new signings across 3 seasons including that summer where we didn't get Grealish, I actually don't think that's bad at all.

We do have to remember as well that in 2018 when we were trying to sign Grealish for £25m, that someone at the club chose to pursue the Aston Villa man ahead of Lo Celso and Maddison who both agreed deals for similar amounts as well. The money was there so who do we blame for focusing on the wrong targets?

No-one is blameless. Levy gets a lot right but he's not infallible. Look at the season that we needed a push to keep the league title momentum going and we got Nelson and Saha.

Absolutely you're right but by the same token everyone has done their part to get us hovering around the Champions League spots for 4 seasons in a row. People forget that since Levy has been in charge we've qualified 14 or so of our last 15 seasons in European competition. We've never had a spell as long and consistent as that, it works both ways.

Oops. @freeeki - just found I can extend the poll. Can add options, but can't delete them.

I clearly didn't try hard enough.

I'm also allowing these hoes to change their votes now.

Fab, let's add Juande Ramos and Jacques Santini for the lols
I'd be tempted to add an "I hate Poch" option, just to prove to certain members that there's a massive difference between being "anti-Poch" and just thinking he's run his course.
I think he needs to go, that doesn't mean I'm anti him because I'd love him to be able to sort this shit out.

When emotions are involved, things are never simple.

The more the interviewer probed and pushed him in order to be able to say he'd tried to put some notional case for Berahino, the more Johnson elaborated on what he meant and gave more examples of why he and others had arrived at their conclusions about him. If only all football radio coverage was of this kind of analytical and considered quality.
Hahahahaha
It was Jim White on Talksport wasn't it?

Poch deserves the January window
But what worries me is he spends a load of cash on players that will take ages to "get Poch fit" and we don't improve.
Then we'll end up sacking him anyway, with less cash for the new manager and more players that he may not want.

Although no one will argue that we don't need to make some signings, the players we already have are good enough to get the results that we're just not getting.

It wasn't long ago that I would have agreed, to give him another window. Now, I'm not so sure that's a good idea.

It wasn't bombastic Jim White who was doing the analysing or the considering—as if—rather it was Johnson. Calm, considered, freshly minted comment and free of the kind of cliches that derive from the far-more-common badly constructed questions and resulting bland replies.

And why would we stand a chance now ? Is it because Poch has created a team worthy of his talents or because he is on his way down as a Manager ?

Bit of both. We're obviously a more attractive proposition now (in spite of this season's shortcomings) and he's already managed or fallen out with most of the bigger teams that would take him.

Cant see levy appointing mourinho if poch was to be sacked. Mourinho commands a big wage and levy might not want to take the risk, especially as jose likes to make noise if he doesnt get what he wants
