Dane Scarlett got hooked. Just really poor selection and terrible having to hook a 15 yr old kid after 30 minutes.

Not a huge surprise looking at the team. We were probably gonna win 4-0 or loss 7-0 pretty naive stuff.
You said it was a really good team and now saying it not a surprise, how?

Dane Scarlett got hooked. Just really poor selection and terrible having to hook a 15 yr old kid after 30 minutes.
How was it a poor selection. The kid got injured from a late tackle he made.

he was injued.

0-5 now.

Had to be supported off with an ice pack. Unfortunate.

Obvs was poor from the start with the penalty especially as we kicked off. This Chelsea team, like old school ones are very big. Cant remember seeing a pshycial difference quite as distinct as this. Our biggest players are Muir and Lusala who are probably the size of their CMs, and they're just quicker than us and coming at pace. Skinner is struggling having picked up the early yellow as are most tbf

Our heads have of course dropped a bit, couple goals have had had some fortune but you make your own luck.

Pedder and Robson probably the 2 trying to battle on and Cooper. Just the defence let us down today.

Dont know why Mathurin wasnt brought on ahead of Mundle

That team was full of flair players on paper that’s why I said it was exciting. But it did cross my mind who was gonna put their foot in or who was doing the holding role. It was a keegan type selection. And in retrospect it obviously proved far to open.

*Ok opposed to flair I maybe should have said slight technical players. Cooper pedder yago Robson all of a similar ilk

Really good recovery. Chelsea possibly took their foot of the gas but I dont remember them having a shot in the 2nd half and we definitely ended the game stronger chasing the game. Thought we'd get another but were wasteful with our passes.

Whittaker had a strange game a lot of chasing around but positioned him well for the first goal, but the 2nd was a rocket. Everytime I've seen him for the u18s I've come away impressed.

Bit of an kerfuffle over the pen as you can imagine between him and White. He wanted his hat trick but I guess White and the managers still saw a chance of us pulling it level so wanted guarantee we'd score.

White was also excellent when he came on, level above. Robson and Pedder continued to play well. And Cirkin and Lusala were a lot better 2nd half to. Was worried it was going to be really embarrassing so pleased with the 2nd half response.

Mathurin didnt get long, definitely some opportunities where he could have recieved the ball.sooner but didnt annoyingly. Played a nice tricky pass to demonstrate a bit of his creativity and skill good for him to wet his feet at this level.

Never been overly impressed with the 02s and 03s with a few star quality and a lot ofmfiller imho but its great were starting to introduce the 04s so early in the season

Yeah fair play for fight back was fearing worst after 20 minutes. Seems White gave team more balance.

Possibly. He is also a lot better than Santiago, who looked a bit out of his depth today. Definitely was expecting q 10 nil drubbing at the start of 2nd half so pleased with how they pulled.it back

don't think it was mentioned but we've been drawn at home to liverpool in the fa youth cup, no info yet but hopefully the game is played at the stadium. not sure what our strongest line-up would be, this possibly:

lo-tutala; lusala, walcott, binks, cirkin; white, john, robson; whittaker, etete*, bennett

*assuming parrott isn't allowed to play.

I know a lot of you keep up to date on the youth, so one question; are they all really that bad? If your a youth player and watching the current team you have to believe you can breakthrough.
If no one is capable of making the first team then why not just scrap it or do what other do a lot and buy young players?

The seniors may be having a bad patch. But consider we’ve just spent £30m on a 19 year old who 2 seasons ago was being mentioned alongside Sancho and Hudson-odoi. And even he isn’t guaranteed a bench place when all fit. Another £10m on 19 yr old sent out in loan.We still have a quality squad that are virtually all internationals. Any kid breaking into the seniors would have to be high quality and international standard as we’ve seen with Parrott. Even Skipp is making a very high quality England U21 squad. even our weakest area FB you have an international captain, an Argentina international an England international and a wales international with about 50 caps.

if only there was a way of getting them games elsewhere in the mean time.

it's funny that all this time we've been told poch knows best, poch sees them in training etc etc but now that the first team aren't doing so well those same fans are now coming around to what we've all been saying for the past few years, yet nothing has actually changed. if the first team is of such high quality that it's virtually impossible for any youth player to break in then you don't just shrug your shoulders and do nothing with them, otherwise what's the point of having an academy in the first place? if skipp can't get a game when dm is a position of obvious weakness then why reject him the chance to go and play a year under parker at fulham? taking young players out of football completely is just dumb, i'm sorry but whatever way you look at it, it is. poch's development model doesn't work, or at best it's a very inefficient one.

have you not noticed the lack of enthusiasm from posters in this thread recently? it's not because there's no good talents coming through, it's because we all know it's not going to lead to anything. you even said it yourself recently with regards to bennett, after this season his pathway is either to play no football for the foreseeable, or stay in the u23s. if you were him, or a similarly talented player, why would you stick around for that?

avb had no interest in the academy and he never hid the fact but at least he wasn't actively detrimental to the development of players like poch is and he was always open to bringing a player into the fold once they'd proven themselves elsewhere first like rose and caulker. i think we'd all take that over what we currently have. I think poch means well but he is stubborn and deluded.

I'd like to preface this by saying I do read a lot of what you guys here in the youth pages post but don't post because I won't pretend to have the first clue most times how it's actually going within the academy etc. So thanks to you all.

Any chance this 'big club mentality' ideal that gets banded about is partly due to this?

Buying the next player to fill a hole, to do a job rather than having the youth fill some of those gaps or even rely on them long term?

I only ask because as someone who reads a lot of the forum, the case of KWP is the one who bothers me the most. 18 months to 2 years ago all I heard about was how good he was going to be, and how every man and his dog in the main part of the forum was pulling their hair out for him to be involved in the first team. Now like so many, he is in some peoples eyes 'not good enough' ... How can this be?

Also this Jack Clarke business, is this how Spurs envisioned this loan going for him?

So many questions around (and this is obviously just my opinion) potential talented youth seemingly either being ignored or wasted in favor of players who the manager himself doesn't seem to want.

I don't know much about Roles. Specifically, what is his best position? He's not a CF, as far as I can tell. Is he more of an AM type?

Also, if he's tearing it up in League 2, might he be recalled in January, and then sent out on loan to a Championship team, to further his development? Or, is the idea to keep him with Cambridge for the whole season, and then loan him out next season to a team and league that's the next level up.

He's fairly young, right? 20? Also could be one of those players that blossoms a little bit later. EG: Mason didn't really breakthrough to our first team until he was about 22, right?

I do like the fact that he's gone on loan and has taken it seriously as a chance to hone his craft and learn from professionals in a lower league, who don't have the same luxurious trappings as a PL team. I feel sometimes you can get one or two promising younglings who go out on a loan to a team three leagues lower, and then think it's beneath them, and therefore show little mental fortitude and professional application. It would seem that young Jack is taking this chance really seriously. So, regardless of whether or not he breaks through with us, it's clear to see that he has a potentially good professional career ahead of him.
