Fantastic performance. Even Eriksen looked up for it. Hopefully the penny had dropped that unless he bucks his ideas up, Lo Celso will start ahead of him. Wouldn't do much for his chances of a free transfer if he's a spurs sub

Christian. I’m really really upset with you. I idolised you. And now you are cold and distant. And I can’t even celebrate when you score. I Hope you find what you are looking for. But. It’s over. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to end it this way. And I’ve found someone new. His name is Gio.

I’m sorry. I’ll forward you on your things.
Sorry babe ???

I, on the other hand, can't stand Drury. I hate the way he screams the goalscorer's name (he now tries to get both first and last names in) and the fact that he always tries to have the clever phrase at hand; which only serves to make him sound like a complete cock. The other thing is that when the ball is being passed around and he's saying the players' names, he says the player's name when he passes the ball and not when he receives it. I couldn't give a shit when it's us as I know who has the ball but when it's a team I'm not familiar with it's as irritating as fuck.

Anyway, on topic: a solid, professional performance (Skipp's lunge aside) with good performances all round. As others have said, I hope it's a springboard and not a blip.
I still remember his classic ' that is a sumptuous feather in Spurs european hat ' comment a few years back( don't remember the opposition though). He should be on Upstart Crow!(for those who have watched it)

I fully meant right, but apparently can’t tell right from left... he was on the right of the three behind Kane.

:cautious:

Your not my wife are you? She can’t tell her left from right (found out from countless map reading duties) and she also loves le gin

Good win..

I guess Poch doesn’t see Sess as a left back? He‘s definitely been used much further up the pitch in his total of 15mins or so.

Here on Virgin Media TV Ireland I just had the displeasure of listening to Kevin Kilbane rubbishing us in the post match chinwag, aided and abetted by Souness. Normal stuff.

OK, it was a good performance away from home, with a couple of lovely goals.

But seriously, in their sweeping comments about team selection, people are not factoring in the quality and, more importantly, the style of the opposition. Red Star have a loose midfield that doesn't press and leaves opponents plenty of space. We eviscerate teams who play like that on a routine basis. Their defence is OK, but their midfield can't keep the ball under pressure.

The problem with this thread is that people are extrapolating from the performances of Lo Celso, Foyth, Ndombele and Sessegnon against this opposition and comparing it to the recent substandard performances of Eriksen, Winks and [opposite side] Aurier against Premiership sides. (For the hundredth time) that ignores the time it takes for new players to get used to the pace and physicality of English football.

Ndombele is getting there after a few months, but Lo Celso has scarcely had any exposure. Concluding that we should immediately replace Eriksen and Winks with Lo Celso and Ndombele against Sheffield United is just simplistic. They've just played 90 minutes in another country. If we were to do that, not only would we be throwing two players without much Premiership experience into starts on a few days' notice, we would also inevitably see a flurry of angry posts here, when they do not replicate their performances against English opposition.

It's not the same kind of football. They can't be expected just to slot in, especially as Lo Celso has been absent with injury for most of the season. It would be great if we could bench the out-of-focus Eriksen in the near future. Despite his goal this evening, he still passed inattentively to the opposition. But it's still an invalid and misleading conclusion that Lo Celso would be a better bet against Sheffield United and subsequent Premiership opponents.

People keep applying what we achieved against Red Star to domestic football and it's bollocks. Red Star's approach is tailor-made for us. That's why their vaunted home record counted for nothing this evening. They have a weak midfield that gives us too much space. Premiership teams form a disciplined low block, fight for possession in midfield, close down and press. It's not an equivalent game and our new players need to get used to it before they become regular starters.

I think that after almost an entire year of dreadful turgid football lacking in any energy or imagination, most here are just happy to have seen good football regardless of context.

yeah I’m not sure 15mins of football will define his spurs career

Sess's composure in the final third is outstanding

Much like Kane loved Trippiers service I believe he’ll love Sessegnon’s. We’ve taken him for granted recently because he’s such a great all around footballer but he needs to get back on the score sheet like he used to. Sess reminds me a bit of bale when he would play LW. Direct and always finding his man in the final third. Not saying he’ll transform into Ronaldo lite but he doesn’t need to. Conventional wingers are a dying art but I feel that could be our ace in the hole moving forward. A wildcard.
