Apart from the howler in the WC final. And in the Sweden Qualifier?
Yes, good knowledge.

WC final was a ridiculous error completely divorced from system or anything else. And France were 4-1 up at the time, no?

Whereas he made a world class and crucial save when we were looking ropey against Australia. World class saves against Argentina when the game was in the balance (including one incredible one against Di Maria), a Gordon Banks esque sage against Uruguay (Godín?) at 1-0, unreal saves at 0-0 and 1-0 against Belgium (De Bruyne !) and some v smart saves earlier in the final when the game was tight.

Easily the best keeper in the World Cup and stepped up in massive moments against big teams and big players.

I don’t really know what I’m arguing here except that he is one of France’s best players for the national team.

Here's an interesting post on reddit by an actual doctor.

His prognosis: "All in all, based on what is public knowledge, I expect to Lloris to at least be training in 6 weeks with a brace and hopefully playing competitive matches before Christmas at the latest (provided he can wear a brace while playing matches). I doubt his season, let alone his career, is in immediate jeopardy because of this injury. Again, this is with the caveat of going off of what is public knowledge and the mean for the reported type of injury."

I don't know, but the issue still remains that he has consistently made errors both in possession and distribution for club and country, so he shouldn't be forced to play in a way that increases that likelihood.

I'm not knocking his shot stopping - I'm saying that he is a known quantity with his passing and ball control; it's a massive area of concern. So why have we changed to a system that invites more problems?

Lloris is a great keeper, however having little confidence in your players makes any keeper nervous. I've dislocated my shoulder several times, apparently the elbow is the worst to heal and I fear from him. The more stable joints that dislocate are the worst ones to recover from. Sometimes and elbow dislocation can lead to the whole arm losing use as you cut off blood supply and nerve endings.

Aside from Gaz, who are our other goalkeepers and what are they like in goal?

Lloris seems to have periods when his mind just seems all over the place - did it happen the last time he had a child?

I think it will do him good to have a little break. It will do us better to stop pissing around with the ball in our own defensive third.

Lloris is an odd one. I personally like him a lot as keeper and captain. He’s always been eccentric and for a team that looks to play out from the back, he’s never looked comfortable from day one.

That being said, he’s one of the best shot-stoppers in the world. Still. And he’s shown Spurs a good degree of loyalty in the past. I know that this can’t matter up to a certain point, but he’s definitely one of the players I wouldn’t be ready to give up on just yet.

I also remember how shocked I was when we signed him. One of the biggest keeping talents around coming to Spurs.

As for a number two if Gazza isn’t up to it - is Friedel retired? :watching:

JimmyG2 rule of thumb
or in this case elbow.

Double the original estimate.
So that's around New Year
at the earliest.
Say Easter.

Just in time to help us
avoid relegation.

I’ve a lot of love for Hugo. He’s been a loyal and reliable servant to the club. He deserves every ounce of respect owed.
But the time has come to move on. Over the last two years he has grown increasingly more inconsistent. The two errors he has already made this year aren’t an anomaly. And they aren’t the type of errors u sweep under the rug. Those two flubs are the sort of thing you may see from a Sunday pub team keeper. Not someone who won the World Cup with France.
Furthermore, he’s a non-entity as a captain. I’ve never seen him rally the team, or light a rocket up someone’s arse. And considering the shit hole we now find ourselves in, we need leaders out there. Someone to stand up and cry war. Sadly, that isn’t him or Kane for that matter.
It’s a new GK era. Don’t know if it’s Gazzaniga or someone else. I just know that Lloris is finis.

Guess the short summary for me is that he is definitely better than Gazzaniga, and the next time we step into the transfer market, we'll have bigger issues to fix than the goalkeeper. So yeah...

Some people here slating Hugo as captain perhaps don't understand the role. It's not just about shouting at people on the pitch Sunday league style. From all we've been hold he has massive amounts of influence in the dressing room. It's no coincidence that he is also the national team captain. A calm sensible pragmatic voice can be much more encouraging than someone barking at you.

We need a leader on the pitch. That isn't Lloris.

I don’t know if you’ve ever played football but not having an armband doesn’t stop us having leaders on the pitch. You think players like Kane, Sissoko, Vertonghen, Alderweireld are quiet on the pitch because they haven’t got a armband on? You’re naive if so.

I think, and this is purely personal with zero grounding in fact, just gut feel... the problem doesn’t lie with Hugo, he hasn’t become poor overnight. I think it’s no surprise that when we had a settled defense of Walker, Vertonghen, Alderwiereld and Rose in front of him we were the meanest defense in the league. That team also had a strong shield in terms of Dier/Wanyama. There was a confidence right down the spine of the team.

And that’s where I fear the heart of this is - the keeper doesn’t have faith in the defense in front of him - they are getting torn apart, left out of position and exposing him and on Saturday after he went off, Gazza... Toby is making mistakes he never used to, because the shield in front of him isn’t working and he’s exposed... it just feels like this runs all the way from not having that really good defensive shield in the midfield that stops the CB pairing being so exposed and in turn give the keeper confidence in the people in front of him.

Yes, he’s making poor decisions and some weird mistakes - but cast your mind back to even 18 months ago, the sweeper keeper, the high line, the press... I can’t think of the last time I saw him playing his natural game.

I don’t know who becomes that shield if Vic can’t get back to what he was, or Dier can’t recover the form he had and fulfill the early promise Poch saw when he moved him forward into that role. A few years back I looked at Dier and thought he was a future captain. His regression is one of the greatest sadnesses of this,

But, if we can find a way to bring stability to the apex of the team, I think we will see the best from our keepers again.

But like I said, that’s based on nothing concrete,
