Well I feel entirely vindicated. I called this a year ago. You can tell the guy has joined the very long long list of talented young footballers who has indulged the life of a rich young famous footballer and has lost focus on his football.

He isn’t the first and won’t be the last bit it explains why he has been utter shit for so long. People were on here defending him saying he has injuries but his poor form predated his injuries by a significant period.

He was never good enough to rely on talent alone as he as severe limitations to his game anyway.

With Dele, I can forgive his tempestuous background. He had to graft and deal with a lot as a child; so I can see why he wants to have fun now. However until he realises that football will be his best source of income he won't develop. He has a lack of many basic footballing skills and needs to focus on getting these up to scratch; if his spectacular isn't coming off at least get the basic rights. However it doesn't feel like he wants to learn or has the capacity to improve his game at present. For a PL footballer he is lacking so much but only he can change his mindset and improve. For now a team needs to be built around him like Kevin Nolan or Tim Cahill and we need to change our playing style; however this makes us into a mid table team. I would definitely have sold him for £100 mil a few seasons ago and got in more technical players who can contribute in various phases of play.

This is an interesting point you make and kind of flies in the face of the calls to move him this place and that in order to 'get the best out of him' as it ultimately displaces another player. But when he gets back to his 20 goals/season level it will have all been justified.

The thing is that we would lose fluidity in our play and be reliant on knock downs and long balls to get the best out of him. I'd rather we play technically than have 2dms supporting All and Kane up top. This would be very boring. The team is greater than the whole and I'd enjoy watching lo Celso and nDombele play a fluid passing and dribbling game compared to the alternative I had proposed. All would be great in an Everton or Newcastle but he hasn't developed into a more rounded player with us.

But we had our best 2 seasons playing sensational football with him starting pretty much every game

He lacks explosive pace. It’s incredibly important in attacking players nowadays and if you aren’t quick you have to be fucking amazing on the ball. He isn’t amazing on the ball.

He lacks the physicality you’d expect from a man his size. He isn’t very quick, or very strong. In fact it often looks like he’s running in treacle. He
is very slow when in possession. His one trick is a nutmeg. That’s basically it.

He has a very limited passing range, particularly long raking passes. He can’t make them. His long range shooting is really really poor. People think he’s a good shooter because of a few goals four years ago. Since then he’s really inaccurate.

He’s at his best when he makes instinctive finishes.

I really don’t see how he fits into a modern attacking system. And he definitely isn’t good enough to play in an elite side. For example who would he get in the team for in either Liverpool or City. He wouldn’t. He doesn’t fit at all.

Nowadays I don’t even know where he fits in at Spurs. He’s regressed into a squad player really.

He gives the ball away so much and he seems tactically stupid. Always tries low percentage fancy flicks which rarely come off instead of being smart and intelligent with the ball.

Maybe he will make a comeback and be brilliant but I just don’t see a player with a well rounded enough game to be top top class. Too many obvious flaws in his game. He’s more like Tim Cahill.

There's incidental and consequential, cause and correlation. I don't know what the differences are between all of those but I'm told they exist. Punk believes Alli is neither essential to our good play nor an exponent of it and that's a fair take. I on the other hand think Alli is vital to our efforts and our slide coincides with his drop in form so we need to get him back to the young player of the year level no matter the cost. Our fortunes are tied to him and his magic moments.
