My mate who is a hammer messaged me tonight and said that he was going to stop taking the piss out of me because spurs are so shit now that it has become boring for him.

my mate stopped taking the piss when I noted he was wearing nappies the last time they competed for anything

I am still a huge Poch fan! But there is something not right. But to balance that out with a little perspective: Foyth, Sess, GLC are three now main players missed with long term injuries. Dele still coming back to fitness. Right now I would play a fully fit Sess ahead of Rose, GLC instead of CE, and CE in the main has been shot, so rather risk GLC bedding in from the get-go. And Foyth RB.

I see the next 3 PL games as super critical, and need to pick up 9 points. Poch has to forgo his blind loyalty to VW for starters. A little patience.

Come off it mate. Sess is a kid and has never played for spurs before. Foyth is a hugely inexperienced kid who makes loads of mistakes when he does play and is hardly an important player and GLC has played about 45 minutes for spurs. You can’t use them being missing as an excuse for Poch nor can you call them main players.

We have our main guns out there fit but they aren’t delivering. What has happened to the whole squad? Everyone has regressed. Performances have been largely poor since beginning of last season. Results for some reason kept coming in for us though despite playing poorly for the remainder of 2018 but that luck soon ran out and since 2019 came round our results have also gone south.

At the end of the day injuries are not an excuse what we are seeing out on the pitch.

I agree with you the next three games are crucial. Poch needs to turn this around quickly. It looks like he has lost the plot and the players, there’s something wrong. Everything I am seeing on the pitch indicates a change of manager needed sooner or later

You can’t deny that the players are not as together as 2 seasons ago when they were all hand shaking every goal they scored, but that season was brilliant. Why have we changed that way we played with the high press? Losing walker and Dembele haven’t had to change the way we set up. Seems like MP philosophy that he used to bang on about has been forgotten. Certainly don’t want mourihno (sp) in charge as I have never liked the bloke. God knows what is needed. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better tho. Like others have stated, he has 3 players not wanting to carry on playing for the club. How long before others kick up a fuss. And let’s be honest, apart from the cl epic last gasp winners and var help there really hasn’t been a lot to cheer about. We’ve looked utter clueless. Dele looks like a league 2 player again, Lucas gets dropped whenever he has a good game or scores, he sticks Sanchez at right back, the club announce that Danny Rose can stay back from pre season to look for another club. Poch refuses to drop Eriksen out of the squad, but benches him and then brings him on when we are behind whilst leaving lo celso on the bench. Could literally go on all night about MP weird decisions, Son at full back, dropping Lucas for the final etc. Maybe he is too young. Fuck knows.

I hear you. Rose’s final third delivery is costing us. Foyth I prefer over Serge, and it ‘seems’ that is Poch’s preference. I totally agree with you tbvh, but trying a dose of alternative perspective.

Tbf if I was playing for a team and our manager dropped a player who scored a hatrick in the semifinals of the biggest competition in the world I would maybe doubt his outlook.

Roses delivery has always been bad. Foyth is basically an attacking midfielder at heart that has been dropped back as he’s got out of the youth system. He’s our John Stones. Accident waiting to happen. We have no identity as a club now. 2 seasons ago we were the best high press young squad winning games even if we fell behind. What are we now?

This team is stale. It feels stale. It’s just run its course. Sad to say but it has. That reboot was needed. It was the only way to make up for 18 months with 0 new players to freshen things up. Levy fucked it.

if we are the 3rd best team still, thats because United, Chelsea and Arsenal are still shit.
We signed four players this summer. Exactly how many did you want us to sign? Six? Seven? Ten?

Teams that sign that many players rarely fare well. Just see the Magnificent Seven as a prime example. The summer before was the problem, but it would have been foolish to try and change everything in one summer.

All of the knee jerk reactions are a bit daft. Poch has plenty in the bank to take the time to sort things out, as long as he wants to be here.

We do seem to have lost our high energy identity, and that's possibly a decision rather than an unconscious drop-off of effort. It could be a tactical decision to not press high up, but wait till a little deeper and it's not really working. That might need time or just be a bad idea.

We're also possible stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding contracts, player ages, and Levy pricing. I dont know why levy and poch wouldn't be on the same page there. And they should've sold players on the cheap if they didn't fancy it with us. And in fairness, if some reserve or youngster at chelsea, united, arsenal or whatever is earning more than you, its understandable.

But poch needs to change the dynamic. He's moaning and grousing a bit too often. Let's pull our socks up and move along. Southampton at home couldn't be at a better time.

We signed 3. I wish we signed 4 or 5. But we signed 3. Clarke wont be here until next season at which point if he doesnt start getting game time, we’ll loan him out again to develop.

Simeone would be the ideal man for me. He's nuts, but never seems to loose his players like Jose, and he's loyal also his tactics would be perfect for a team that can't compete financially with City, Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea. Yes, I'm well aware the AM spend a large amount of money, but not in comparison to Barca and RM and they scout very well. He's also very good at working with youngsters. Personally I think he would be excellent for us.

Whilst I agree with you, I think that Simeone would tombstone Levy after one window

One of the interesting things about the summer window was the inability to get rid of players Poch didn’t want any more.

Toby
Eriksen
Rose
Possibly Jan

There’s been some very solid suggestions that Poch wanted shot of all of them and wanted to replace them with younger players he could motivate and work with.

Obviously we didn’t get them out of the door which also meant we get incomings late. Hence Poch not happy again.

What I find interesting is the idea Poch thought he could win something with a refreshed squad of younger players, when he’s not been capable of winning anything with a prime squad of (now) experienced players who know his systems.

I’m not convinced by his philosophy but to be fair it’s what Fergie did. Different world now though.

My loyalty is to the club not the manager. If the manager is making strange decisions and not getting the results the buck stops with him. If he comes out in press conferences and isn't the same guy from.12 months ago and says his team isn't the best one he's had how does that impact the players.

Are the next 3 games crucial.. absolutely. I think Poch has been great for us but if he feels down about still being at the club then the players will feel it. Can't say I liked all the crap he came out with about leaving whether it was tactics or not.

Hopefully this is a small blip and we'll push on.

There’s no way your central defence and star AM running down their contracts doesn’t affect cohesion on the pitch, I think.

Dier has been overtaken by several players. Kane and Son could potentially move upwards. It seems absurd to expect much loyalty from Aurier. With the explicit intent of Rose and Wanyama that makes nine.

If only we’d replaced the four closest to the door of them over the last four windows we’d probably be ok.

As opposed to Poch who's so lovable half of our established players want to leave and our home grown star striker is all over the press criticising the team and lamenting how we haven't progressed in 5 years? I'll take the cancer that brings a few trophies and dour football over the cancer that brings nothing and dour football ta...
Mourinho has spent fortunes at past clubs, wins plenty of trophies, been sacked plenty of times too in equal measure. I'm not saying his a bad manager just personally not my cup of tea.
Over the last few months taking into account last season, we have regressed it's clear the squad needs investment freshness rebooting recycling, this is Pochettinho first real negative period. It's a shame having steered us through the stadium build, no signings at all in 2018/19 season, CL final, we find ourselves with one half fit player in Ndombele, one 18 yhr old player on loan in Clarke, one loaned player in Lo Celso injured on international duty, another player bought injured in Sessegnon, on top of that we have others players point blank refusing to sign contacts and buy into the collective and some refusing to leave when bids were accepted..... You couldn't make it up.

It's a bit of a mess. I hope Pochettinho is allowed time to come through the storm. It'll be a shame if it ended like this.

This year is a real struggle from watching the team to listening to Spurs fans. When people speak about getting rid of Poch, the man who brought us to the brink with virtually zero spend, well, they sound crazy. Who else could have done that, but then, when you hear Nicholson's quote "If you don't win anything, you had a bad season", maybe they are more in tune with the club's philosophy.

(I've supported teams in other sports and when the fans get what they wish, things sometimes go downhill fast. And when some write "Let's get Mourinho" and to those i quote Billy again “It’s no use just winning, we’ve got to win well.” So, as much as i want silverware, i don't want it that way but to each their own.).

So i decided to geek out a bit and graph our final league position and realized just how good the past few years has been. The only time we have had anything that looked like sustained success was the 1960 era team. And should you forget, the late 90s through the first decade of the 21st century were brutal. (Does anyone remember battling for a Europa league position? Yeah, those were fun years.)

So I'm still all in with Poch but it all starts with him getting his attitude right. He sets the tone and it sounds like he now needs to work with the senior players to get their buy in in whatever direction we go in. He's only had one signing in the past three windows available for any extended length of time, so it seems prudent to give him extra leeway and see how the team plays with GLC and Sess wiht several games under their belt. I'm not ignoring his game decisions, subs, writing a book, etc as these are less than confidence inducing but i can't ignore the fact that his coaching is in large part responsible for us being in a position where we have the basis for a sustainable run at the top of the EPL and should win silverware along the way. Let's hope he gets himself right so he can get the players right.
