someone tell the Club the game is in Piraeus, not Athens :X3:
Probably land in Athens I expect. Looks like Piraeus is only a half hour drive.

Superfan from Greece, lurking for quite a while, but first time posting here . Yes, Piraeus is virtually the same city as Athens, it's one megacity of 4 million people. The airport is in Athens, and so are most bars :)
This is going to be a tricky one, as Olympiakos are quite strong at home, and experienced in Europe. They had to start from the Third qualifying round to get into the group stage, and were very solid in those six games, home and away. Well coached, and dangerous in attack, although they are nowhere near elite quality-wise.
Corrupt ownership and all, as well-documented (their boss is on trial next week for fixed games in a span of many years), but their home ground can be a cauldron on game day.
No way Spurs win this easily just by showing up, unless they score twice in the opening 10 minutes or something. This is no evening for second-string experiments. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I predict that a draw is more probable.
Here's hoping that I somehow get a ticket in the away end; I'd hate to mingle with their fanbase, especially the far-right ultras of Gate 7.
By the way, expect more of the same in Belgrade. Olympiakos and Red Star are brother teams, and they wouldn't hesitate a second giving away a result to each other if necessary. I just hate this Group.
Olympiakos also have to play their equivalent of the NLD next Sunday @Panathinaikos. Which is their yearly cup final, but with added hatred and decadence.
The Metro serves the Piraeus stadium very well, but be careful. Anyone needs info, let me know.

Fully expecting this to be an ugly and frustrating game from our POV. We'll have to grind it out to come away with anything from it.

A bit nervous for this one. Olympiakos are very good at home and can cause us some real trouble.
A draw wouldn’t be the end of the world

Very happy memory of Olympiakos and Athens, my 1st ever European away match in 1972 - a present to myself for my 20th birthday.

Far too many incidents to recall in detail here, but what an experience: my first and only (accidental) visit to a brothel, running away from said brothel, getting lost in the centre of Athens in the process and the local police dropping me off at my hotel, getting mistaken for Spurs players in a bar in Piraeus while getting hammered with some Scottish journo from the Tottenham Herald, celebrating Richard Nixon's US election victory with US embassy staff down in the Plaka, fending off (unsuccessfully) the unwanted attention of Aussie rules footballers towards the girls from the embassy, watching the bemused faces of Liverpool players as we sang Tottenham songs before their game with AEK the afternoon before our game and not one Scouser in attendance (apart from me), the wooden train carriages taking us to Piraeus, the Karaiskakis stadium (and 'no right ultras of Gate 7' to contend with).

......and then, unbelievably 40yrs later to the week, treating my 3 boys and their wives/girlfriends to a trip to Greece to watch me run the 26mls on that historic route from Marathon to Athens (the one Paula Radcliffe couldn't finish  ). Happy days indeed.

I have been to both and I literally have only just found out that Piraeus isn't technically part of Athens!

They are basically the same city (sorry if I am offending some Greeks here) there isn't even a tiny bit of countryside separating them. I would say it's a bit like Watford and London, but it's not even that, unless you know before hand there is no way you would know that Piraeus is not part of Athens were you to visit. In fact I would suggest that Piraeus being its own 'city' is more of a legal distinction than a lived one.

This is a tricky game on a number of levels.

Playing away at a tough place while Leicester are off this week impacts our two games. By comparison, Liverpool and Chelsea can both approach their game knowing they played on the same night mid-week.

Poch will need to manage the squad. Would not be against playing on the break with the likes of Moura coming in tomorrow. Hope for a win, but settle for a draw. This will be a tougher game than expected.

The weekend against Leicester when they have a week to prepare for us will be really tough. Would take a draw there too.

These are the pressure games we could only have dreamed about in the not too distant past.

We've got the squad for it now so we can handle it, if we come out with two draws I'll be disappointed.

Be content enough with a draw tomorrow but not at Leicester. We've got the squad to cope, and we're straight up a better side than Leicester, wining there 2-0 last season.

Yes it will be a tough enough game but if we put in the effort we'll have too much for them.

Remember they'll come out and take us on, we'll relish that compared to the bus parkers.
No way would I settle for a point against Leicester. There's only two fixtures out of all 38 that would I do that - City and Liverpool away.

But the manager and player's have maintained that they want to be part of the big set and win things, so for me it's no excuses two away games in 3 days and we need to extract maximum from both certainly to maintain a charge in the PL.

On a side note, what a piss take that we are the 12:30pm game on Saturday. It’s bullshit like this that Poch refers to when he says the premier league does nothing to help teams in Europe.

Agreed, ridiculous really. We should of been the Sunday 4.00pm game, and Liverpool/Chelsea the early Saturday kick off given they've played last night.

I think we will batter them on the break, our attacking prowess will be too much for them.

1-3
