Let's not forget that whilst he just wanted to retire, he sent out a brochure begging for clubs to sign him.

I must remember to add 'Cool', 'First Class' and 'Good looking' to CVs in future.

What a prick.

I dunno what's worse, the brochure itself or the fact that it convinced Man Utd to sign him.

Its all his opinion made out to be fact, I mean if Gerrard didn't wanna go to Galaxy I doubt he would have to. Owen is just coming across like a bitter, salty little man who has no real history in the game, despite how good fast he was pre injury. The only real club tie he had was Liverpool which he ruined when he signed your United.

Nah, he was just rapid. Once his pace was gone he was shit.

Nah, he wasn't. He was a great finisher as well. Any attacker that plays off the shoulder is going to lose "it" when they get an injury that inhibits their ability to make those runs. His positioning - great, finishing - great, pace - electric, TV show based on him coming to life from a poster - world class, hotel - Trivago, etc etc

I have to agree. To realise how good Owen was you only had to look at Defoe, who literally was just pace. Owen’s finishing and movement put him on another level altogether.

That’s so wrong.

Owen wasn’t all pace, his finishing was amazing, some of the best I’ve ever seen.

Problem is you have to compare him to others at the time and, if my memory isn't as rotten as it seems to be some days, that includes Robbie Fowler who was (imo) one of the most dead-eye strikers in memory. Wasn't great at all the other aspects of his game, but finishing... tidy.

there is a feature on Michael Owen in the Athletic today. F365 have created two stories out of it..

and

From the original, entitled 'And yet... who is Michael Owen?' (https://theathletic.com/1193611/2019/09/12/who-is-michael-owen/), it comes across that he has been unhappy for quite a long time. Hasn't done anything for himself his whole life, decisions by committee where his opinion is not that important, and now he realises he made mistakes and only really had a short period where he was very good. The rest was riddled with injuries and choices that didn't really work out. He was used/protected, whichever way you want to see it.

At the end of the Athletic piece it says:

“He’s a funny one, Michael Owen,” [John, from the Anfield Wrap Podcast] Gibbons says. “What should have happened with him is what happened with Ian Rush: go abroad for a year, come back, score loads of goals and spend the rest of his career at Liverpool. There’s an alternative universe where he’s a real Liverpool legend and I think he knows that and probably regrets it a little bit.”

And the way he talks suggests he doesn't really like how his life turned out - money, sure, but he's not really loved anywhere and his media career is going the same way as his later career. Getting jobs based on his name even though he's not up to it.

For once I agree with a Scouser. I think Owen really regrets the way his career panned out and that's a big reason for him general demeanour.

It would help if he could at least pretend not to be such an unlikable bloke.

The thing is though I think he is supposed to have wanted to go back to Liverpool from Real Madrid but Rafa wasn’t interested?

So even though he’s a bit of a massive bellend, he did actually want to go back there and had to settle for Newcastle when Liverpool said no thanks.

On SC everyone is a prick I don't know why people are even arguing it. Not Spurs? Prick. And even some of our own don't escape it. Some even graduate to ****.

We're lovely, even minded and likeable fans. That's why we're so widely respected and liked in the football world.
