I won’t lose any sleep worrying about how they will keep out of their overdraft. They were still paid very very well it’s not like they’re living in a bedsit waiting for their giro
Not saying I feel sorry for them, but I'd be a bit pissed off if I missed out on today's mega money by a few years too.

Can't stand the pair of them. I remember when Shearer kicked Neil Lennon on the face he then threatened to walk out on England if charged by the FA!

Shearer kicking Lennon in the face was brilliant! One of the most kick able faces in the game!

Didn’t Liam Gallagher once describe Owen as ‘someone with the personality of a postman’ hahaha??? Bit harsh on postmen to be fair!

By all accounts, Michael Owen is a sad little creature.

So strange that someone can have the opportunities and life he's had, and yet still have been such a trumpet his entire career.

If 18-22 year old Michael Owen was coming through today he'd be £150m in value. A lot of people forget how devastatingly good he was and especially young people who only really saw the part of his career where he was a sicknote.

He was one of the handful of that golden generation who did themselves justice at international tournaments.

He has a dull / easy to mock public persona but part of me thinks if that was me going from boy wonder to on the trash heap due to injuries I would have sunk into a horrible mental state.

Shearer was world class who also isn't appreciated by younger fans that never really saw him play, but he was a snide guy on the field and as a pundit too.

While he was a good footballer, he was always an utter cretin who would tell young fans to "fuck off", so his awful personality and ego is entirely unaffected by his injuries

Yeah, Shearer was nails and a dirty bugger in his day. So were most of the best all round strikers back then. Look at the likes of Hristo Stoichkov from back then... he was a nutcase.

Yeah I'd be absolutely fuming. When you think about how much some absolutely crap players make nowadays, imagine what Shearer would've been able to get considering he basically averaged 20 league goals a season for over 10 years.

That's fine, Shearer is getting paid mega money by the BBC to talk absolutely shit in comparison to pundits 20 years ago so swings and roundabouts :D

Stoichkov, nutter though he was, was a choirboy in comparison with Edmundo.

Although the best (and definitely the worst) Edmundo stories usually happened off the field- including getting a chimpanzee drunk- I saw him do some very nasty things on the pitch too. Thoroughly deserved his nickname of "The Animal".

Let's not forget that whilst he just wanted to retire, he sent out a brochure begging for clubs to sign him.

I must remember to add 'Cool', 'First Class' and 'Good looking' to CVs in future.

What a prick.

Ok this is the cringiest thing in football I’ve ever seen. And I’ve read the entire west ham thread. What an utter twat.

Owen making further steps in becoming more popular with Liverpool fans with his Gerrard comments lol.

https://www.skysports.com/football/...steven-gerrard-gone-earlier-says-michael-owen

Its all his opinion made out to be fact, I mean if Gerrard didn't wanna go to Galaxy I doubt he would have to. Owen is just coming across like a bitter, salty little man who has no real history in the game, despite how good how good he was pre injury. The only real club tie he had was Liverpool which he ruined when he signed your United.

I don’t understand why the daft sod went to Real Madrid either.

And I don’t like it when footballers bring out these books and use it to slate or spread gossip about other footballers, just so unecessary.

Suspect he won’t be invited to play in any Liverpool testominals or special games anytime soon!

Shearer was still on something like £30K a week though. Imagine being bitter about money when you were earning that much. And the amount he was earning was huge compared to the players that played 20 years before he did.

Saying that I can imagine that Owens higher wages at Newcastle were an issue.

Yeah dont get me wrong I'm not saying shearer was struggling to put food on the table. Just if it were me it would be in the back of my mind that if I'd been born a few years later id have earned 10x as much. As you say though Im sure he's comfortable enough either way.
