Don’t particularly like either of them but shearer did take an honest interview question response by Owen out of context to make him book bad and Owen just reacted. Very tit for tat.

Personally I think Owen is a bit self centrered and boring but seems like an ok guy, shearer seems like a bit of a twat and a bully to be honest.

I see a lot of anti Owen stuff which is justified but don't forget that Shearer was a dirty player at club level and used to get away with a lot of things like stamping on a players head and a lot of elbows. Any other player at the time would have probably been banned by the FA but not Shearer.
Yeah Shearer was a nasty piece of work on the pitch. Whatever else you can level at Owen, he wasn't that.

Owen is much, much more of a **** than Shearer, IMO. It's not even close.
I think the problem is that people are trying to compare two different ****s, and whilst they do indeed each have their own good and bad bits, deep down, they’re just a pair of ****s.

Can't stand the pair of them. I remember when Shearer kicked Neil Lennon on the face he then threatened to walk out on England if charged by the FA!

Let's not forget that whilst he just wanted to retire, he sent out a brochure begging for clubs to sign him.

I must remember to add 'Cool', 'First Class' and 'Good looking' to CVs in future.

What a prick.

This sparked the Adebayor brochure.

They were pretty much at the top for ages and now have to spin boring platitudes every week to keep put of the overdraft.
I won’t lose any sleep worrying about how they will keep out of their overdraft. They were still paid very very well it’s not like they’re living in a bedsit waiting for their giro

I still can’t believe Owen actually had ‘good looking’ on his brochure! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Absolutely this. I'm not a fan of Shearer particularly but Owen is just unbearable. He's always come across as an arrogant prick IMO.

Has anyone else noticed how, after just a few shots in that video, Owen is blowing out of his arse? He sounds knackered by the end, out of breath and stuff - is that really a "Fit & Healthy" sign?

I mean, I'm not judging - i get out of breath doing a particularly energetic fart, so fair do's, but he's a pro footballer, I expected more.

That video is going to haunt him forever though, "Congratulations, he's thirteen" should be a song.

If 18-22 year old Michael Owen was coming through today he'd be £150m in value. A lot of people forget how devastatingly good he was and especially young people who only really saw the part of his career where he was a sicknote.

He was one of the handful of that golden generation who did themselves justice at international tournaments.

He has a dull / easy to mock public persona but part of me thinks if that was me going from boy wonder to on the trash heap due to injuries I would have sunk into a horrible mental state.

Shearer was world class who also isn't appreciated by younger fans that never really saw him play, but he was a snide guy on the field and as a pundit too.
