Most people's posts seem to focus on the players and then getting them into a formation but I'd be interested to hear people's views about our best (average) formation? I personally still like the 4-2-3-1 but can we get away with this formation with no DM as putting Dier/Wanyama into the 11 takes a spot away from a really top player. I think Winks and Ndombele can have the discipline to play the 2 but do they have enough physicality?
I think we now have the players to play a 4-3-3 but that leaves some top attacking talent on the bench. Not convinced by the 4-4-2 diamond we have trialled in pre-season as again that normally requires a dedicated DM rather than deep lying playmaker or box to box type. Difficult difficult! Thoughts?
I think this is really interesting, and has to come first.
It’s clear from the comments in this thread that we don’t yet have a ‘first XI, which is fine, squad game now, but worryingly we don’t have a ‘best’ formation, all players buy into. Including reserve and youth teams. Which is what Pep would immediately set up throughout.
Ask city and Liverpool how they play best, every fan could tell you. Spurs, I’m not sure you could.
Two up, one up, diamond, three at the back, two, wingbacks, single double pivot?
Just not sure we have our identity yet.
Maybe the new signings will set it.
For me, back four and Kane up top on his own should be set.
Eriksen 10.
Son one side, GLC the other. ND central, box to box. Then one of Winks, Siss.
