Neither are defensive minded, both better at breaking with the ball and assisting the attack. Whilst I am sure they could both do a job against the lesser teams, away to the big boys, you need a 3 man midfield, with an anchor.

I see but I would definitely call Sissoko defensive minded, not sure about Ndombele but I accept your point.

For me the reason I would start both is because Ndombele is extremely press resistant and has already mastered how to play against City's press, Sissoko is in the team to cover KWP and burst into spaces on the counter which there will be inevitably be against City.

Lamela, Eriksen and Lucas behind Kane, Lamela because he will press City from the front and set the tone.

A thing I had not really noticed until Pellegrini pointed it out and that being the amount of tactical small fouls not enough for a card but aimed to break up play.
Having watched again Liverpool and City they both use the same tactic and referees should be made aware of this tactic as it is worse than the normal yellow card as they are in the heat of the game but these tactical fouls are premeditated .
I read on another site someone talking about the City use of the tactical foul and perhaps someone should have the gonads to highlight this ploy and give such tackles what they deserve namely a yellow card.
I don't believe Poch will say anything as it is not his style to complain but someone should.

Hugo
KWP - Toby - Verts - Rose
NDombele - Winks
Lucas - Eriksen - Lamela
Kane

I don't think we need to have Ndombele, Winks & Sissoko in the middle.

We do tactical fouling as well, I'm actually surprised that our fans haven't picked up on it.

Most of the team picks itself for me - Lloris, Toby, Rose, NDombele, Kane, Lamela, Moura. The others...

Is Vertonghen injured or is there any truth to the rumours on Saturday evening? Starts for me but keen to find out if there is anything more to his omission.

Sissoko has to start in a game like this. We need his intensity.

KWP will face a HUGE test and for me is the biggest concern but did well on Saturday so lets hope he continues to grow.

Eriksen...is a huge problem for us. Clearly an asset but the current situation leaves everybody in limbo. If he could just have a timely change of heart it would be appreciated, but for me he starts. He has to, Saturday proved as much.

So, basically I'm subbing Sanchez for Vertonghen and Winks for Eriksen. Rest of team is as per Saturday.

Bench (which looks awfully light):
Gazzaniga, Sanchez, Winks, Aurier, Dier, Nkoudou, Wanyama

Need Son, Alli, Sessegnon and Lo Celso available ASAP!

EDIT - I'd include GLC on the bench, but I don't believe Poch will bring him in yet. I could be wrong what with our current injuries/bans.

Honestly, its hard making teams when a few players are in flux, like Eriksen, Aurier and even Toby to an extent. Who knows if they will be here past today. The early window closure is a huge problem as we now can no longer get replacements. No clue why the PL kept it again this summer when it was abundantly clear Europe will not be changing. Hopefully the league comes to their senses sooner rather than later and ends this experiment.

I don't think we need to have Ndombele, Winks & Sissoko in the middle.

We should win comfortably with 11 outfield players to be fair.

Prepared to get negged to death for this, but I actually would go with the diamond again and the only change I would make is Eriksen in for Lamela. The diamond with Winks, Sissoko, and NDombele was far too defensive for playing Villa at home but for playing City away, I think we need that much weight in the midfield. Put Eriksen at the tip and try to pick them off on the break with Kane and Moura.

Hope everyone keeps a level head about this result. City are absolutely flying on all cylinders and we're still integrating signings and getting key players back from injuries and suspension. Glad we're getting a trip to the Ethiad over with early in the season when we're still figuring it out.

Going to be a tough game which some how we need to start with a defence that is totally switched on. We seem to be the slowest team of all to get going in games and just can't afford that again. Still we often play well against City as I don't think they like our aggressiveness. Maybe we hold back a couple of our best attacking players until the last twenty-five minutes and start with a combative team.

I think we need to go with power in CM.

I would go for Sissoko playing the DM role but with the ability to break with power and pace.

Ndombele allows us to have a technical passer in there also.

KWP Toby - Verts Rose
Sissoko Ndombele
Moura Eriksen Lamela
Kane

It will be an interesting game to see how we may fare this season. I know any team can catch a hiding up there, and we do have injuries, but if we are serious challengers, we should be looking at causing them serious problems and at least sneaking a draw. If City beat us, as long as it is narrow and we make them work incredibly hard for it, I'll still be confident of the season ahead.

It's going to be crucial for the match. Breaking down their midfield play. We need our most intelligent and active pressers in midfield. I'd opt for 4 in defence to ensure that the midfield is properly closed down making sure the supply lines are cut.

Lloris
Walker-Peters Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Sissoko Ndombele Winks
Eriksen Lamela
Kane

Subs: Gazzaniga, Sanchez, Dier, Wanyama, Lo Celso, Moura, Parrott

In the training video @spursofficial just put, Lo Celso looks super sharp. Vertonghen & Eriksen in training too.

If Lo Celso is fit, I would love us to go for it against City and start him &Eriksen together. We need ballers against City.

My XI , If Lo Celso & Eriksen are fit enough to start...4-2-3-1

Lloris
Walker-Peters, Toby, Jan, Rose
Sissoko/Winks, Ndombele,
Moura, Eriksen,Lo Celso
Kane

If he is not fit to start, then Lamela for Lo Celso. Winks or Sissoko for me with Ndombele in a 2 man CM
