He's not gonna be part of your system maaaan

Think somebody just wanted to slate ITK and saw it as his moment. A weird moment of helpfulness from A&C and he gets it thrown in his face. No wonder he’s so mean. A thankless task.

I'm actually glad we didn't get a right back in this window. I'd rather wait until Jan to see how it plays out. There's no point signing a new one if one of ours turns out to be the solution. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dier drop to centre back now with our midfield depth so Foyth moves to right back. With Sess and Foyth still so young there is every chance they will develop into top fullbacks. Not to mention KWP still fairly young too. Plenty of potential for Poch to work with.

I had to read it 3 times to see if I missed the joke then re-read A&Cs post, I don't understand where it came from at all after seemingly no meltdown over the last 48 hours.

Every summer window throws up an irrational individual meltdown. We had the guy a couple of seasons ago who lost his mind over hidden text he couldn’t read.

It’s a jungle in here during the windows and some of us never return home the same

I think poor Fazza is still wandering around muttering to himself about Arshavin and having flashbacks.......... you weren’t there man!

Transfer Window and Summer Overall Rating: 7.5/10

The Good

  • Infusion of Youth: Our once young and vibrant squad aged and stagnated during our transfer window inactivity over the past 18 months. We have added Lo Celso (23), NDombele (22), Sessegnon (19), Clarke (18), the preseason academy standouts Parrott (17), Skipp (18), Tanganga (20), and Foyth (21) and KWP (22) should move up from bit part players last season to regular first-teamers. All those additions are a solid youth core to build around for the coming years.
  • Two Record Transfers: Buying two players as highly-rated as NDombele and Lo Celso for a combined £110m is incredible and shows Spurs are willing to play in a different financial class.
  • Rebuilt Midfield: Our midfield was easily our weakest link last year. Now we can trot out Winks, NDombele, and Lo Celso with Dier, Sissoko, Skipp, and Wanyama backing them up. Lamela and Dele can play #10 our tip of the diamond as well. Miles better.
  • Depth: Not perfect, but so much improved with the signings and internal player development.
  • No Stadium Handicap: Considering we were willing to buy Dybala on top of our current business, it seems the stadium might not hamper us too much in regards to spending.
The Bad

  • Right Back: It is what it is, we have three of them but none of them is great. Cross your fingers and hope one of Aurier, Foyth, and KWP goes out and makes the job their own.
  • One More Signing: Getting one Dybala, Coutinho, or Fernandes would have tipped this window into the 9.5 or 10 range. Plus it’s super frustrating that we seemingly came so close with Dybala, but nothing is ever perfect.
  • Future CB Issues: Toby seems off next summer and Vertonghen will be 33 by the end of the season, with his contract also expiring. Will almost certainly be our #1 area of focus next summer with RB.
  • Deadwood: More of a mixed bag here, good work to get Trippier and Janssen out for good fees but frustrating that we still have GKN, Wanyama, and Aurier when it seems like the club was trying to shift them.
  • Not on the level of Liverpool and City: Not that I expected us to catch up in one window, but I think we’re still a tier below the top two.
The Ugly

  • Eriksen: Annoying that it is still unresolved and the options of selling him now at a cut rate or him leaving next summer on a free are both pretty unappealing.
  • 2018 Summer: Ultimately, this summer we were still haunted by doing nothing last summer. We had too much deadwood shift and too many areas to address to get it all done in one summer. If we had just made 1 or 2 signings last summer, our squad would look much younger and better rounded. I think if Poch had his druthers Rose, Toby, and maybe others would be gone with younger replacements in place but it was just too much to get done.
Looking Ahead to 2020

The goal once again should be to get younger. Next year’s starting backline will still be quite old and there’s numerous squad players who can be replaced with younger alternatives.

2020 Potential Outgoings and Replacements

  • Alderweireld (Free) --> Big CB signing (50m)
  • Rose (15m) --> Sessegnon becomes first choice
  • Aurier (15m) --> Big RB signing (35m)
  • Lamela (20m) --> Clarke takes squad place
  • Wanyama (10m) --> Skipp takes squad place
  • Sissoko (25m) --> Young depth CM replacement (30m)
  • GKN (5m)
Can see Lamela and Sissoko being controversial, but think that given their age it would make sense to cash in on them and invest in younger players for depth roles.

Lo Celso is much more of a ball winner and press breaker than Eriksen, so if CE stick around I think GLC will always play behind him.

The way i look at any transfer window is, overall did we achieve three things:

1: Improve the quality of the squad?

2: Add competition to starting places in the starting eleven?

3: Provide added player depth for tactical changes from the start, or midway though a game?

If we did this then we have had a successful transfer window.

Finally, to put our transfer window into some perspective, we will not have the remote ignominy of witnessing anyone in a Spurs shirt with Luiz or Iwobi blazoned on the back. and that, thank God are two very large bullets dodged.

Agreed. I know he excelled further forward in Spain, but looking at how well rounded his game is (tackling, passing and dribbling) I think we'll get the best out of him as the most attacking in a midfield 3. GLC and Ndombele would be able to get the ball forward to our 3 attackers (either diamond or 4-3-3) very quickly and make us much more resistant to the opposition press.

However the beauty of his versatility is that we could still use him further forward in tricky away games where we may need a more defensive minded midfield.

For me, on paper, Winks-NDombele-Lo Celso is a near perfect 3 man midfield in terms of style. It makes me less concerned about Eriksen leaving (though in the short term in will be a blow to depth) and curious as to how we will utilize Dele.

maybe someone didn't take things with a pinch of salt and probably had a flutter on Fernandes joining ? Hence a meltdown!

Totaly agree.

I really feel like Dele needs to get back to what made him a star, and for that to happen I think he needs to play closer to Kane and attack the space like he does so well. Despite a bit of a disappointing season I think he has rounded some of the rougher aspects of his game, he has certainly developed an eye for a through ball. I think he's guilty of being a bit too cautious when he plays deeper.

Lamela is a nice option for the tip of the diamond too if he stays fit.

IF Ndombele and Lo Celso settle quickly, I think we are in for an exciting season!

Doesn't Dele slow our attacks down much or is it just me seeing things Same could be said for Eriksen
If CE does go i wouldn't mind seeing Lamela playing there him NDombele-Lo Celso pace power quick counters

Agreed, I am a huge Dele fan but he's such a unique player that it's not always easy to fit him into the 11. I think last year he struggled with the fact that the midfield behind was quite poor and he had to track back more and service was worse.
