If, and it’s a big if, he can be persuaded to sign a new deal, I for one would be over the moon. If he wants to go though, I say move on - but it’s a lot of pressure on others, including Lo Celso, to create in his absence; losing Eriksen will leave a void in our team that’ll be very hard to fill.

He has a new set of midfield buddies to play with. I’m sure he’ll enjoy not being the only big fish in the pond.

I just hope that the fatigue, contract issues etc can be put to bed, and we see Eriksen from previous seasons flourish again.

The thought of him, along side TN and GLC makes my heart skip a beat.

Not long to wait now

I'm kind of hoping that he'll have a change of heart now and sign a new deal.

Get behind him and it might happen.

that will depend if his heart is really at Spurs or not and stops the sulking

decent enough player but after that alleged spat he had with Poch assuming there is truth in what happened, Poch may just want him gone

Well written!

I am also surprised how people are upset at Eriksen for potentially letting his contract run down. If we have to talk about money then let's discuss why we didn't give him his fair salary two three seasons ago. He should earn 150-200k a week, but instead the club kept it at 75-80. Son is 140k and Harry 200k. What goes around comes around!

And, no, Eriksen is not a player, who goes out and singlehandedly wins a game. He needs dangerous people up front, who can make runs and occupy defenders. With Kane out much of last season and out of form in the final (because he doesn't know when not to tackle) and Son also missing initially, Eriksen didn't get the space and the opportunities he needed.

He might lack some self confidence, but hopefully that will be back and this year he will be a better amplifier for the team with an improved midfield and Kane back.

Thought we'd been trying to offer him £150k for awhile now? Since the same point we started those discussions with Dele at least.

Either way, I'm hoping he signs up again - even if it's with a release clause to a foreign team. A lot of people were worrying about him heading off to United when the window got tense, but he appears to have turned them down.

Think the triangles this Spurs squad could play around opponents this year will be a lot of fun, and it would be great to have a reenergised Eriksen as part of that.

@T_damn I fully agree with the overriding sentiment of your post, but all information suggests that we've been trying to give Eriksen a contract in line with the top earners for at least a season, perhaps longer, as before they signed bumper deals he was in the same ball park they were in salary wide. He has chosen not to sign.

I still think he's been a top class play for us and would love him to sign a new deal, and if he leaves on a free I'll accept it as, like you say, transfer fee and salary combined he's been an absolute snip (same goes for Toby), but it's definitely his choice to be earning less than he could be.

I can see him scoring the winning penalty in the 90th minute against Villa on The weekend (Kane would have gone off) and then do a cheeky signing paper celebration. An hour later the news will come through that he’s signed a new contract and we’ll all love him again. Can’t wait.

The whole team would probably have to be subbed off for Eriksen to take a pen after the last two shootouts :ROFLMAO:

i think the club has shown enough ambition to sign ndombele and glc, although dybala didn't happen, hope this can persuade eriksen to stay

You might be right - I don't know. But regardless, a contract is between two parties and if both don't get what they want, it won't be completed. The release clause advocated by so many in here was maybe never offered and I believe playing for one of the Spanish giants has been a life long ambition for Eriksen. But hard to know what has happened behind the scenes.

Hopefully, after playing a few games with TN & GLC, it would turn his head and make him decide on a new Long term deal with us.

He hasn’t downed his tools, so I don’t see any reason to drop him, purely because he hasn’t signed a new contract with us, yet.

I'm really pleased he stayed.

I might be in a minority of one but I think given how long he's played for us, he would offer more this season than dybala would for us. Obviously long term its likely dybala would have been the better investment.

I don't really get why we don't offer him a new deal and include a 50m release clause if one of the big clubs come in for him. Works for him as he gets more money and a cut price move if one of his dream clubs come in. We get a happier player and some money if he goes as opposed to nothing next summer.

I mean I'd be happy to set the release clause at 30m or whatever if it meant us getting something. The thought of losing eriksen for nothing must be making levy lose his final hair follicle!!

He literally turned down Man U to stay here and some of you are hating on him.
He is seriously underated by people on here. Hope he signs a new deal and gets back to being one of our main men.

That’s a wildly optimistic take on the situation. Yes he turned down United, but it wasn’t motivated by any burning desire to play for Spurs. He’s very clearly not committed to the team and wants to go to Spain. If he doesn’t leave between now and the end of the European window then in all likelihood he will leave on a free transfer next summer.

Poch is ruthless with contract rebels, he dropped Toby for the majority of a season, and has consistently tried to move Rose on from the club. By all accounts we tried to push Eriksen out of the door over the last week or two. I fully expect him to play this weekend as we don’t really have any other options. But if he ends up staying, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have a long period on the bench once our new signings have settled in.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that he knuckles down works hard and decides to stay, but it appears he’s burnt a few bridges at Spurs, and under the current regime we have a consistent approach to how that plays out.

European windows are still open and that's where he wants to move. I'd put this post on ice till September.

Personally hope he signs a new deal.

Fair play. Doesn't really seem any of the clubs that he wants want him. Still best option for him imo is sign a new deal similar to what I set out and have a blinder of a season to garner their interest. He seems like a decent bloke and while modern footballers only seem to have a loyalty to their bank account I'd be very disappointed if he was deliberately trying to run down his contract to make more money on a free.

Hope I'm right and hope he stays.

Don’t want him to go, ANY team is better with CE in it (onions & all that), just hoping he sees our commitment & the downright shocking tactics/behaviour of RM & realise it’s better here @ home.
