They need several signings and a new manager before they're 'past us'.

I think people forget that we were fighting for the league title until January last season, until our injuries and post WC tiredness caught up with us. We are a lot closer to City and Liverpool, than to Chelsea, Arsenal and United. United have strengthened, sure, but they are far from our level yet.
How anyone sees Utd as any threat is beyond me. They’ll finish outside the top 6 with Ole in charge.

Without derailing the thread - sometimes regardless of Manager the players can pull them through. They have a decent squad and if they add CE - it would make them infinitely stronger.

Put it this way - they have improved their squad far more than we have THUS FAR

We absolutely cannot well Erikson to Man Utd for almost any fee, simply on principle alone.

We’re either a club that strengthens our rivals or we aren’t. This week will show what sort of club we really are. Perception is reality.
And if it's the only way that we strengthen ourselves, what then? Keep an unhappy player for the last year of his contract and then let him slink away for fuck all? If he's really what's standing in the way of us getting new players in then sell him to whoever is willing to pay and do it yesterday. I'll drive him up north myself.

Just be a gentleman and sign a 1 year extension and be off to RM or Barca or someone next window.

Get £50-60m now or 0 in the summer

I agree but this is all reactive to a shitshow that's unfolded. I guess the cards haven't fallen how we expected with Madrid not coming in. It just seems like we've been played by agents, players and clubs.

I agree with that but if we are this close and don't wish to push on, when will we push on? When Arsenal, United and Chelsea recover and go past us?

The spin is starting now, the excuses, Eriksen - no doubt - is one of them.
Its been spin for the last week. ITK on here telling us that Eriksen is playing up and Utd can offer more money. All the reasoning being delivered- 60mil is better than nothing blah blah - when selling to a rival is just not acceptable and directly influences CL qualification.

Then today, a media release that Eriksen isn't going to be used (isn't wanted ala Walker) this season and that foreign teams are offering shit money. Could see a mile off, it was setting it up lovely for the club to say 'oh, but united offered big money and we don't want him anyway'...just like with Walker. And now the Utd rumours hot up.

In addition to this, apparently CE is to blame for our window being meh, good luck selling that one. Even a long term believer in Daniel Levy, like me, isn't buying that.

Yeah, I'm not having it either. Only way it's acceptable is if he's adequately replaced, and by 'replaced' I mean GLC/Fernandes.

I know people will say we have no choice with the contract, but dear me it couldn't turn out much worse if true.

If United get him for 50/60m, they're getting an unbelievable deal for one of the best CAMs in the league for the past 5 years.

This has been staring us in the face the whole time, maybe not his destination but we we're never gonna let him do a Ramsey

He's obviously pissed off some people at the club and we want him gone.

It's an absolute step down for him to go to United.

He should have signed that new contract - I doubt it's still on the table now, but if it is and we are still open to keeping him (I don't believe for a second Poch isn't) we need him to stay.

Literally selling our best attacking midfielder to a rival ffs...I thought this was behind us.

...and what the hell was the point in the whole Dybala story? Now the spin is we don't have the money for all of these incomings, yet happy to release a story linked to a 80m player.

I imagine this is how Poch felt last week during his presser.

Gards seems pretty certain on twitter that he's off, Poch did say the rebuild would be painful but if he goes utd it will really hurt.

Imperative we tie up GLC and Bruno now.

We will sell Eriksen and sign an AM next summer which we will be told to be grateful for, when all we will be doing is signing a replacement a year later.

Sound familiar?

If Eriksen leaves and we don't sign both GLC and BF, it's more and more obvious Levy has no ambition of winning the league and is simply doing the bare minimum he can publicly get away without a fan revolt to keep us competitive and around the CL places.

Selling players like Dembele and Eriksen and merely replacing them is not improving, it is not moving forward, it is standing still, and if you stand still in this league you move backwards, which is what we did last season.

If I was Poch, I'd be amazed if he hasn't walked by June 2020 if Levy doesn't finish this window having properly backed him and provided him with at least those two players. He should go to a club who display ambition to win things.

It's really so simple, if Levy provides Poch with both GLC and BF, I'll hold my hand up and say the guy has ambition and wants us to win things. If he merely replaces Eriksen, it's obviously just not acceptable.
I generally give Levy the benefit of the doubt, but I agree with you 100%.

This window is THE big opportunity to back Poch. He gave Levy an absolute gift by getting to CL final and he deserves something in return - Ndombele is brilliant but after the previous 2 windows he was the absolute bare minimum. Our manager has earned Levy a boatload on a shoestring budget and we may never have a better opportunity to back him than now (especially if he fucks off next summer).

If we really have no choice but to sell Eriksen to a direct rival, Levy has to make a statement and, if need be, pay a bit extra to sign GLC AND Fernandes.

If not this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and I'll genuinely doubt Levy's ambition in the transfer market - I just pray that Poch doesn't feel the same way.

I guess the problem with GLC and BF is that if we sell Eriksen first, they know we have more cash.
