I hate to see players acting like dicks.
Ok, so we don't know the story of what's happened behind the scenes but for their captain to refuse to go on tour?!
Part of me loves this, but another part of me hates it.
Every part of me loves it, because its Arsenal.

I can however see why they're digging in over it, he wants them to effectively cancel his contract so he can leave on a free, after they've just paid his wages for the last year while he's badly injured and barely played.
I can see why they expect whatever French club wants him to pony up like any other transfer.

As Arnautovic also has proved this summer, contracts apparently don't mean squat any more.

He has a year left. That's not Arsenal's problem.

Agree with you. How much do they expect to get for a 33 year old? Guess they just want to release him on a free next season. As they haven't got money for a replacement.

Seems to be their modus operandi lately to just let everyone's contracts expire no matter what

What a dick. He’s signed a contract till next year. He can’t just expect them to let him leave for free.

Apparently Koscielny is on £90k a week - another one literally stealing a living there. They will probably fine him, strip him of the captaincy and shuffle him out of the back door.
If that clown Emery doesn't get a grip of the situation this is shaping up to be a train crash season at Woolwich, and he won't be far behind at the exit door. (y)

Am I the only one who thinks they've had a touch here. He's shit and they are paying him a fortune. Now they can get a small fee, get him of the wage bill etc

They're issue, and part of why it's funny, is cause they don't really have anyone to replace him. Especially given that he is their club captain. So replacing him/him leaving isn't just them losing a CB but it's them losing a leader figure to some degree. I don't know the whole story behind Koscielny but he's seemingly been a non issue/fine enough professional, so not even like they're getting rid of someone who's been a constant bad egg.

It's not really good for them and I am full in on the schadenfreude of it all

Well there that is but presumably they at least think he’s a “the best of a bad bunch” otherwise they wouldn’t make him their £90k/wk club captain.

That's all well and good if you've got a replacement, but as it stands if they let him go they'd get 90k/week off the wage bull, but would then have to go out and find a replacement, which will cost them a transfer fee, agent fee etc. and let's be honest probably result in them paying someone about 90k/week anyway given that that's now a fairly low contract for a "top 6 club" starter.

actually i agree with Koscielny not going, he's afraid of getting injured again or more so of him playing and having the French clubs seeing how crap he really is. :sneaky:

Yeah that's what's getting me, that he appears to just want them to cancel his contract!
Why the hell would/should they do that? There are situations where a club may do that, for a loved player that has served a club well but in this instance, they don't owe him anything.
