For the financial record the value of the player you buy is divided over the length of the contract.
So a £10m player with a 5 year contract is worth:
Year 1 £10m
Year 2 £8m
Year 3 £6m
Year 4 £4m
Year 5 £2m.

I think you’re muddling up cash flow and accounting profit. The cash you receive is quite simply money you CAN use for other signings. The transfer budget isn’t really based on the accounting. Maybe in the long run it’s fair to say that we want to be creating a more valuable asset base but transfer budgets are based on cashflows. And this is something a lot of fans don't grasp.
They believe you can sell Janssen for less than we paid for him and put that money towards someone else.
But the money goes towards writing down the asset so if it's less than the amortised amount left on the books it actually comes off the transfer budget.
It's why selling off deadwood isn't as simple as it would seem.

Nope. Not at all. You are not grasping the difference between accrual accounting and cash flow.
The amortization of a transfer fee is running through the expense side of the P&L every year on a straight line based on the length of the initial contract.
There is no money needed to actually amortize it - it’s not a cash flow item.
VJs book value is probably around 4MM right now. If we sell him for 5MM, the P&L impact is a 1MM gain. The cash flow impact is still a 5MM inflow.
Similarly, a purchase of a player isn’t a P&L expense, but it is a cash outflow. It’s effectively CapEx. Buy a player for 25, you pay 25 of cash, and put an asset of 25 on the balance sheet. The P&L expense hits as that amortizes over the next 5 years.
We have earned so much accounting net income over the last two seasons, we don’t really have to worry about P&L from an FFP standpoint.
Happy birthday Vinny! Even a greeting on the official club twitter!! Maybe he still has a future with us; after all, miracles do happen!!
It would be nice if he could, but I think @daveduvet 's analysis is most likely the case.Feel he has to go to recoup his confidence elsewhere. Just one of those things....
The guy was on the Dutch national team for like a year meaning you’d think Dutch clubs would be interested.Wonder if he'd consider MLS. Feel like that'd be a great opportunity for him to get some confidence back, have a change in scenery and hopefully reestablish himself. It also won't completely write him off from at least getting back on the national team radar, should he do well. As @dtxspurs mentioned, I'd be surprised if clubs in the Eredivisie weren't interested, either.
Ajax is probably the only team that could afford his wages, and he's not good enough for that side.Shocked he doesn’t have suitors in Holland

Call me a nerd (which some of you bellends will certainly do) but we’ve become Game of Thrones’ Will Defray and Vinny is one of our ugly daughters that no fucker wants to marry

I’ve still never understood this one. I’m perfectly happy with him as a deep backup striker. He can have the first 60+ minutes of every domestic cup game.
He’d be perfectly fine for us if Harry and Son are both hurt. Have never seen him give anything other than 100% on the pitch.
