You can’t complain about players leaving when under contract with fans saying ‘let him rot in the reserves’ and then moan that a player is running down his contract and undermining his value.
Eriksen has done nothing wrong and is quite justified in waiting to see what his options are. The fact is that we have had a top player for at least 2 seasons on what is relatively a very low wage. We can’t have it both ways. Now he is entering the last year
We either convince him to sign or have to accept a lower fee then we would otherwise get.

Totally agree he is justified in waiting to see what his options are, just do NOT agree on the manner in which it was announced via the media. Why not have a quiet word with Poch, explain how you feel and see what can be done in that situation ?. It could have been handled far more discretely, now he's stated his feelings to the World and RM have apparently lost interest....it just embarasses everybody and does little for team morale.

I am sure he has told Poch and powers that be a while back. He was asked a question and answered it and I think it shows fans the respect of filling us in on situation.

I'm with you both.

As much as he's said "but I'll be happy to stay if nothing better comes along" , it's still preceded by "I want to leave & try something new".

He's basically said he wants out but, fuck it, we'll do if nothing good enough comes along.

Doesn't float my boat at all & I'd hope it also doesn't float Poch's either.

Poch has been open about preferring to work with a smaller squad, so that means we need 100% commitment from every member of it. No player who has said he wants to try something new can be 100% committed.

This post is absolutely nothing to do with his ability.

I have nothing against him wanting to try it at an elite club.

My biggest issue is his motivation to play at 100% for us if it doesn't happen.
He went off the boil at Ajax and needed his move to us to reignite himself.
If he ends up staying, is he going to have his head in the game?

I wish I was as 'sure' of that as you seem to be, perhaps you could inform us where such assuredness come from ?. Saying to the fans "I may leave but if Real Madrid don't come in for me then I'll stay" shows scant respect from where I'm sitting. We shall however agree to differ (y) . Time will surely tell.........

Is not credible that the club did not know his position during the negotiations. They obviously tried to get him to sign new contract in past couple of years and by fact that he didn’t they know he is assessing his options.

Don't understand why he doesn't just run it down, he can then have his pick of where to go. Obviously we want some cash for him so we can spend elsewhere but whats one more year to a player already earning a decent wage.

Cause presumably the club would try and move him on if not replace him with someone else this summer, no way we'd let him go for free.

Won't have a choice if he doesn't want to go to any club who bids on him

He'll have plenty of suitors, we're talking about Christian Eriksen here...if he doesn't move to his preferred destination he'll have to move somewhere...he's not going want to play 2nd fiddle to an other player when he can be playing week in and week out.

Pity he didn't tell the press that...how much nicer and respectful would that have been...."I am assessing my options"....sorted !!

That pretty much is what he said, he didn’t name any specific teams. Just said that after 6 years he may fancy a new challenge if an exciting opportunity comes. Also said he wouldn’t rule out staying. Am not sure what you think he did wrong

"Assessing my options"..would have been a reply that said little and implied nothing....diplomatic, courteous and respectful of his current club....what he did say was to declare open season on himself to anyone interested in signing him providing he thought it would be an upward career move.
Simply a matter of being professionally astute...I lost all respect for him when he said it. As I stated before...let's agree to differ.

Everybody is always open to a career move for better money and opportunities, especially footballers, regardless of how long they have on their contract or what they may or may not say. We've seen it all hundreds of times down the years.
I couldnt care less to be honest.
See who we have and who we dont when the season starts. Cant do anything about it anyway so why worry?

Completely agree... doesn't worry me at all and there's nothing you can do about it...and as you quite rightly say everyone is always open to a career move for better money and opportunities....it's a given....so why feel the need to publicly declare it. Just get on with your current job, do it as well as you can and see if any offers come in.

If true, it's interesting that Zidane rates Pogba higher than Eriksen. And I can see why: more risk but more potential reward. Pogba has big titles under his belt and can be very effective if shorn of major defensive duties.

Eriksen is consistent, but I agree with others who question whether his highs are high enough. Perhaps we'd all learn a harsh lesson if he moved on. But I think we overvalue him and maybe he overrates himself too. He's certainly not up there with Hazard in terms of influence on games and end-product. But he is discussed in similar terms to Hazard, including the fee we'd hope to get for him.

I'm not bothered by his stated interest in moving on. I think many Spurs fans are willing to roll the dice on him being this year's big departure. I'm fine with that, but not because he said he's interested in other clubs, but because we may need a substantial freshening up that his departure could bring. If he stays, I hope we have an improved team structure that he can excel in.

Am I missing something here ?? o_O

Eriksen might want to try his hand at Real Madrid if they are interested. A career move that supposedly he has openly admitted to.

Is he that wrong to want to test himself at one of, if not the, biggest clubs in World football.

Equally, is it that bad if a player of his calibre decides he'd be open to staying at Spurs if that move didn't come to fruition.

Sure, we can all bang the drum "we only want players who want to be here"

To an extent, I concur. But he's not kicking up a fuss, been a bad apple in the dressing room. Instead, merely stated that he might be looking for a new challenge, part of a supposed career path he's never hidden.

I've read many posts stating if he left, he's been a good servant and whilst would be a loss deserves his move.

So why not rejoice in the idea that if he doesn't get his move, he could well be happy to stay with Spurs.

I mean, is it really that much of a shock that a player might be somewhat interested in Real Madrid if they were to cast their beady eye. I'd suggest not.

If he goes, I'll certainly miss.

If he stays...D.I.S.C.O

It would be interesting but I suspect it's also because Perez wants him because he is more marketable.
