Paris is 2 hours from st pancras. You are talking 6 hours to get to an airport, fly to amsterdam and then get through customs. Or the other way. City airport is quicker but do they have regular flights?
6 hours is overselling it. I don't know how long you spend on your flights but you can do the whole trip in less than four hours. You could also drive there and take a ferry. but its a fair point. In any case Belgium is much easier. With the Eurostar.

I think people are conveniently ignoring the reports we’ve had of personal problems between Poch and Toby... if that’s irreconcilable then it doesn’t matter what makes sense in a vacuum.

A quote to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, Alderweireld said “After the disappointment of that 2-0 defeat, I didn’t feel like football anymore and I wanted to be with my family.
“I played 65 games this season. Mentally it was tough. I am happy that the game against Scotland in Brussels on Tuesday is the last game of the season. After that we can finally go on vacation.
“I’m focusing on a new season at Spurs. I hope the club is working on reinforcements.”

I just don't get it. I think he is staying.

Here's hoping.

It's up to him.
He's said he'd like to go back to ajax. Maybe he'll just run down his contract and go there on a free. Or somewhere else for a big signing on fee.

I think he’d quite possibly like to stay, his agent had no doubt been shopping him all over for the past year or two and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he has struggled to find better terms that what we offered him initially.

And since we heard reports of that falling out with Poch, there has been absolutely no news on our end of a contract being offered or even negotiated as far as I have seen.

There's an argument to be made for him letting his contract run out. It's a gamble (he could get seriously injured), though.

65 games is a mental amount of football. And to think how incredibly consistent he has been too is even more impressive.

Just a shame there's no chance of him signing a new contract.

He's quite clever in what he says to the media to be fair to him.

Still expect him to leave.

I half agree and half disagree

For what ever reason I feel he is NOT very clever as the last year so much has been said about him and those surroundings him that he now has to make the right noises or else he could find himself in a very difficult situation if he stays - which is where I agree with you thinking he will leave

fine with me, one less area to try and fix this summer, and we get another season out of him while paying him less than what a replacement of his quality would be on.

Got some time to scout and sign a replacement

Poor that such a good defender is leaving in a free though; could have used that money to fund, or partially fund, the replacement

The only thing against running his contract out is players have done incredibly well by being sold like slaves - as their wages seem to go up as a good percentage of these high fees. Agents, and managers have done well too.
He doesn't really want to help pull the rug from under this system, especially if he wants to stay in the game as a coach.

Likewise I'd like to think Scumball's managerial career goes no-where as if I were an owner, my first question to him would be how could he convince the £100's millions worth of talent not to just run their contracts out like he did.

I think he's open to leave to certain clubs but so far nobody seems to be going for him.
United links seems to have died down - I think he was more of a Mourinho target, and Ole is targeting younger players. They went from chasing Perisic and Willian to signing 21 years old championship wingers. So hopefully he's not a target anymore. Also after the season they had, not having CL versus us, you have to wonder if he still sees them as a step up.

From other big clubs, the one I fear is Juventus - loves a bargain, don't mind buying old players, Sarri loves ball playing CBs - but so far nothing on that front, thankfully. Maybe PSG too if they miss out on De Ligt.

Seems a bit early for him to go to Ajax next year, he's still probably the second best CB in the league. I think maybe he'll sign a short term extension.

Toby probably thinks he's been underpaid for the past couple of years but has resisted a payrise cos it would come with an extended contract, making it harder for him to leave. Will he be willing to stick around another year on reduced pay to get all the gold in 12 months' time (provided he avoids injury) on a free transfer or does he jump when some team inevitably offers £25m before the start of the season. His wages might not be quite as high as he could demand if he waited for a free transfer but they'll be in excess of the £150k per week we were purported to have offered him

Toby is a true professional and has proven so particularly over the past few years at the club. FWIW, I think he would be mad to sign a new contract or seek to move this summer. There are few clubs that are better than us right now that could offer him first-team football and CL - moreover, he would be far better off getting a huge signing on fee in 2021 as a free agent.

But is it up to him? Perhaps Poch wants him gone?
