Toby by the end of next season will have missed out on three seasons worth of £3m a year more than he’s currently earning roughly, so £9m.

So he could leave now, at 30, with any club paying £25m or he could leave in a year, for free, at 31, so probably the same salary as now and make up that £9m lost and then another £5/6m on top knowing that whoever signs him is getting him without shelling out the £25m transfer fee they would’ve this summer.

He’s played this very well.

I honestly have no qualms if that is his end game. We paid a bargain price and his contribution in defence has seen us qualify for the CL etc. So his more than paid back our investment in him. He an JV have been immense in our backline.. Would love to see us sign AWB.. Imagine a back for of AWB..Toby ..Jan...Rose.

Truly hope he stays and ends his career with us. If he moves on then i wish him all the best.

Happy to keep him for one more year on his current wages and let him go next year for free by which time he’ll be 31. Taking the 25mil hit will be worth it as we won’t be able to buy anyone half as good for 25mil this summer. Means we can focus on other areas this summer and focus on replacing him next summer.

Yes because it worked out so well for sol campbell saying he wanted to stay. Right up to the minute he fucked off.

At least chris is being honest to the fans.
The thing is, everyone knows Toby’s leaving this summer. Unless, of course, they’re living under a rock. He has a £25m release clause. And there is next to no chance we offer him a new contract.

He may leave this summer. He may stay another year and leave on a free. It's up to him at the end of the day.

It is absolutely up to him. But if a Champions League team comes in for him with decent enough wages, he will probably choose to go.

Or would he get more next season going for a free?
I really don't know. He'll be a year older.

Also which cl team will come in for him? City seem to want young hungry players these days.
His reputation in spain isn't that great.
Chelsea have a transfer embargo and now hazard has left their highest paid player is on £150k a week, same as byern.
Juve? Psg? Liverpool?

I don't know.

I still have a feeling he'll stay. He only leaves if someone wants to pay him more than Spurs. Not many sides are going to fork out 25mil fee plus 100-150k a week for a 31yo with essentially no resale value.
There are only 9 richer clubs in the world. Rule out Chelski and Arsenal. How many of the others really need a CB and would chuck that much money at a player his age? Utd?

Utd need a total rebuild. I doubt that they would do that by buying 30+ players. Even if they wanted him are they that attractive at the moment? Money talks though.

Not sure you can rule out Chelsea or Arsenal tbh.

Erm....you’re forgetting one really important point mate?! Salaries. Toby wants 200 grand a week. You think Ajax can or will pay that? Not in a million years. So it’s a non starter. Like I said, maybe when he’s 34.

I’m well aware who Ajax are as a club and team by the way.

I'm well aware of hisalleged wage demands. So the conclusion is he won't be going to Ajax now or when 34 then

Wasn't there some comment a year or so back about his parents missing him or something too? I wouldn't be shocked if you are bang on the money. Maybe it's not a last big pay day that he wants, rather a move that Ajax can afford without blowing their budget
I don't get that, Amsterdam is so close he could live there and come to work. I mean we have playersin the PL who live in Paris. Footballers only work a few hours a day, they can afford a long commute.

While true I imagine for some they would rather be able to just stay in familiar surroundings 24/7 without the fuss. I found the article and quotes, he was talking about Belgium but still an easy commute and shorter hop if he's on Ajax's books. The main crux of it was missing christmas and new year with his family for the last 12 years (was 27 at the time) and had missed big events like the birth of his brother's twins and all of their birthdays so presumably commute and no winter break plays into it too

Hmm the Toby Jan situation is worrying as a whole though. Id say we are likely to lose both next season. That would be hard to adapt to. We do need to give Sanchez, foyth and dier chances to establish themselves at CB.

Everything you say is correct... BUT he's also a serious knee injury away from potentially ending his career at the elite level. Its not like he's not had the odd long term lay off. Agree cards are in his hands but he's got to be careful he doesn't overplay them.

Paris is 2 hours from st pancras. You are talking 6 hours to get to an airport, fly to amsterdam and then get through customs. Or the other way. City airport is quicker but do they have regular flights?

I think we will keep Jan. He’s hardly deteriorating in quality.
