Would take him but a left footed CB would surely be Jans replacement not Toby

I think Ake is the natural successor to Jan. If this link is genuine, it does make me wonder if Vertonghen could be the unexpected departure that JJ alluded to. I could see him following Dembele to China at some point. Obviously hope it's not this summer as he's still one of the best defenders in the league.

Saw him at the Spurs v Ajax game, was half thinking we may go after him after that, then this comes up...

I really hope not, we cannot lose Toby and jan in the same window, but don’t think he’ll go

I reckon only place Jan would go is back to Ajax...either that or retire with us.

I wouldnt mind Ake to be honest. Whilst I believe Foyth and Sanchez are the future, we can't get by with just two cbs, so another will be needed with the future in mind and Ake is ideal.

However, if Jan is surprisingly off, Toby too. We are unlikely to challenge for a title or CL immediately with such a young group of cbs. Especially when none of them are particularly mainstays.

Don't really see the fit, to be honest. And, I don't think he's really continued what looked to be a trajectory towards becoming a fantastic CB. He's good, just not much more than that.

I'd be shocked if Jan left, however when people discuss Toby leaving, there is little chat over a replacement CB. Of course, Sanchez is the direct replacement, but I 100% think we need another in (Dier and Davies discussion incoming).

Personally, I think a new left footed centre half to phase out Jan would be best. Mixed opinion on whether that man is Ake however.
