Okay, so obviously the ref gave it and they checked with VAR so...it was a penalty and Liverpool scored it! But the rules imo could certainly have been interpreted another way.

For starters, it hits Sissoko in the chest first and then his arm, I don't believe Sissoko moved his arm towards the ball which is what would make it a penalty but is trying to move his arm away but I can see how that can be interpreted the other way. Also, the reason Sissoko's arm is out in the first place was not to make himself bigger, he was actually pointing to Trippier to warn him about the through ball and an overlap so does that make it an unnatural position or is that a normal part of the game?

I would argue through my Spurs coloured spectacles that with it coming off his chest, it not being intentional and that pointing is a natural part of the game it shouldn't have been given although I can see the argument that he has made his silhouette bigger by doing the act of warning Trippier about the possibility of a runner behind him.

Honestly, I may be clutching at straws but to give a penalty after only 20 seconds of the second biggest game in football (after the WC final) in such controversial fashion, it kinda ruined the whole event tbh

Still in Madrid and very proud of our team...what a journey weve had this season...we dared and we almost did and Bill was dead right, 'It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory”...YIDS
Im also in Madrid and this is the common feeling out here amongst us yids, so close and so proud of what we achieve! Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur.

Replays show that is was not handball

The ball hits his chest first and only after that hits his hand

If only uefa had some kind of system of video review for these big decisions

I was all for Moura starting and bringing Kane on, but some of the criticism of Kane and Poch is pretty ridiculous IMO. No way can I accept that Pochettino got out thought or got his tactics wrong because we were 1-0 through a freak incident inside 30 seconds. We have no idea how the game plan would have panned out. It is so easy for us to romanticise about Moura carrying on from where he left off against Ajax, in my case all too easy as I have been re-watching the semi-final incessantly for the last three weeks! But reality is, Moura tends to blow hot and cold. I love him, and he is a great talent, but he started the season against United like a world class player and then faded quickly. Again, after he scored the hatrick against Huddersfield I thought he would go on a rampant run for the next few games but he didn't. Kane has shown time and time again that he truly is world class and will finish more chances than any of our other players. It is also abundantly clear that he is one of our key leaders. I wanted Moura to start because like many of us I expected a very open first half an hour where Liverpool could potentially blow us away. Moura and Son to counter their full-backs made sense to me, but once that penalty was given all of that thinking goes out the window. Liverpool sat back, and I think it is hard to argue that Moura would have had any greater an impact on what was a strange game than Kane did, or eriksen, or son, (or salah, firminho or mane for that matter). Moura didn't show anything to suggest it was the wrong call in the 35 minutes he had during a time where we were playing our best football. Kane was fit, that much is clear, aside from that, no he didn't look match sharp but then no-one looked match sharp. Salah's shooting was much worse than Sissoko's FFS. None of the incredible attacking talent on either side shone last night. Bottom line is there is so much luck and randomness in football, games will play out in unexpected ways. If you play that game 100 times each will be different but there will be trends. You can't judge a decision on the one outcome or game that happened to transpire, you have to judge it on the liklihood of it working out as you intend. Replay the game 100 times and Liverpool win more than we do, but Kane scores more often than Moura does!

It’s football....Lucas is in form and is match fit...Kane isn’t.

simple “maths” Lucas should have started with Kane coming off the bench.

The laws state yes - Ref hides behind yet another grey area created by grey men in grey suits.

Spectacle was gone after that, when you have the power to change the dynamic of a football match not half a minute into a football match that's what you end up with.

Doesn't excuse some of those players out there completely screwing the pooch when they had a chance to do something that many of them supposedly 'dream of'.

Going to be interesting how long this iteration of the law remains and refs continue to be able to not have to answer to the consequences of their decisions.

We had 90 minutes to get back into it.

We were shit. We played it like a preseason friendly. Hardly laid a glove onto them. Feel sick
Agree we had tons of possession but didn't have a clue what to do with it I think had more touches than any outfield player.
All our main threats were shit son, Kane, Dele and eriksen all had game's to forget in the biggest night of their careers just don't understand why they were so shit.

Totally agree, it will possibly become a new tactic next season but under CL rules it was a penalty. The link I posted earlier this morning explains why far better than I ever could.
We'll have defenders wearing straight jackets next to avoid penalties.

I’m pretty sure Mane aimed for Sissoko’s arm. There’s no Liverpool player in sight of that pass!

Don’t think it was checked by VAR. No indication given of that check on tv or the stadium.

We lose:
Kane starts, not fit enough
Lucas starts, why is Kane not starting?

We win:
Kane starts, great call by Poch
Lucas starts, great call by Poch

He’s paid a lot of money to make these big decisions, we have to trust him. No one will ever know if starting Lucas would have made the result any different. It was a massive decision and one that if we lost, Poch will always be judged on.

In Poch we trust

UEFA's rules say that if the ball hits your arm and its in a unnatural position then it's a pen, can't see why there's a debate?

Was a pen for me.
Its consistent with the way pens have been awarded in the CL this season.
Should be asking why Sissoko was standing in the goal area with his arm out like he was directing traffic. Stupid costly mistake on his part. Doesnt matter why your arm is up, it shouldn't be there.

Anyway we are now part of a very small group of English clubs who've made a CL Final.
How many times have we qualified for the CL and we've already made a final!
Be proud of that fact.
Its taken Liverpool with all their resources 15years to win another one.
Man City have never achieved this.
We're just getting started.
COYS.
