He seems a frustrated shadow of the player he was. He's been blighted with illness and injuries, and seems totally frustrated with his inability to physically do what he used to. And he's looking reckless and rash, and mainly because he's always a couple of steps behind where he was.
If his body wont let him do what he wants on the pitch, he has to be smarter, or he's just a liability.

Dier's season has been destroyed by a late return from the WC, bad injuries and poor fitness. I think he deserves the summer to get himself back to his best personally.

This. Needs time and a chance. A really valuable asset for us in a season when we've been massively short on squad players.

Totally agreed BUT I do think he needs to revert back to defence... the thing is he looks so slow and i suspect its due to several issues not least his injuries and illnesses and not having much game time

He is not match fit for sure, but played a role in our first half dominance.
He plays the ball first time while the likes of Eriksen are in space. We used to be quick in transition when we were fun to watch and Dier was key to that.

But he himself offers nothing past the halfway line. Not even at corners. If he is on MP's summer kill list, then that weakness is his downfall. If Dier was prepared to play mainly CB, which I think he rejected, then his days here would be more secure.

Clearly unfit and rushed back cos we don’t have any other midfielders. Who’d have thought.

Needs a lot of conditioning to get back to it, he looks so slow.

I saw a clip of his debut goal against West Ham the other day and was genuinely shocked at how bulky he's become since that game.

It's strange considering how hard Poch apparently works them that this has happened with not just Dier but Kane also. Both have bulked up and appear noticeably slower than they were when we were enjoyable to watch.

TBF Kane had to bulk up to deal with the physicality his game encourages. If he didn't defenders would just bully him left right and centre. He only got away with it at the start as no-one cared to get tight to him.

Dier's bulk just looks like a case of conditioning to me.

You mean temporarily until he regains fitness? I don't think he's a better defender than Sanchez but with our massive lack of cover for Sissoko in CM he's basically stuck in the DM role for now. I hope if he avoids more injury in the summer he can come back fitter and sharper but only time will tell.

We need to invest in CM - Grealish would be a great addition but I'd keep Dier around as a squad player.

He is a useful squad player but that's as far as it goes. He has not really developed much over the last few years which is a shame.

This year has been a bugger for Dier.

Unlike other players who had no proper pre-season because of the World Cup and then suffered injuries, he's also had two seperate spells out with illness. Illness is a separate problem because you can't recuperate when your body is fighting whatever it is, unlike with an ankle injury like Kane's for example, where the rest of your body gets to rest and/or exercise in a disciplined way.

And not having a settled run in the team doesn't help either.

He's a long way below par, but I wouldn't be happy to let him go just yet. Give him a full pre-season and see how he gets on next season before deciding he's not really good enough any more.

Ding ding ding ding - winner.

Unfortunately the same fans who demand unwavering loyalty from the players are unwilling to give it back.

Not my favourite player by any stretch of the imagination but he was a decent player a couple of tears ago. He's more likely to get back to his former self than Wanyama so if we have to keep one it would be him. That said he's one of the few squad players someone might give us some money for so if a decent offer comes in I would sell in a heartbeat.

Carrying far too much timber in my view.
Dele Alli said Dier was the worst dressed Tottenham player as his clothes are always too baggy. I have a feeling if Eric revisits his wardrobe the 2015 stuff will now be a perfect fit.

When he first moved into DM I thought he was a revelation but now he is so slow and cumbersome and looking totally out of condition.

Perhaps a rest and then a full pre-season might see him come back looking sharper and fitter - sadly I'm not convinced at this stage.

Exactly my view. He’s just too immobile now.

I think it’s just his physique though. Surely Poch and team would have addressed this if it was at all possible

He is two steps behind due to injuries etc. this season.

Give him a full pre-season and he will be great again for sure, however is he at the new Tottenham standard?

Agree with you on the pre-season, however he's at the level where I'd like to see us go from him being first team to a great bench option based on having a great transfer window.
