This will be a fun one to follow this summer, then.

Mainly because there's absolutely no chance we're interested in him, so I wonder what the motives are and where he ends up..

This is what we're doing, and what I believe needs to be done. We missed our window of opportunity with this set of players due to a mix of bad luck, incompetence and negligence. There's too many weaknesses that this current squad needs to address to be considered challengers, so it's about that time that we start thinking about the future again IMO.
Do we need to start over or do we need a few pieces...

Honestly? I feel like we need more than a few pieces. And with the way we're run, we don't have the funds to get the amount of pieces we need without selling certain stars. Which then creates more areas of need. Which would then require more players sold to fund replacements etc etc etc.. it's a vicious cycle and I think we're at the time of our cycle where we missed our chance, unfortunately.

Sorry to go back a few pages but the left footed centre half really should be NDicka. Been impressed with him all season and he’s just getting better and better. He was superb last night against Inter and commanded that side of the field brilliantly. Bought for absolute peanuts in the summer so as per usual we’re 1 summer too late on that front but hopefully we’re 1 summer early on him being an absolute star.

This is a joke right ???????

If memory serves correct, some of our current crop of players ( Dele, Kane, Rose) played in the Championship, while others were purchased or graduated through the academy ( Dier, Eriksen, Winks) and at no point where any of those players considered the finished article or World class when they broke through or joined the team. So why the reservation with those names listed?

We all know how this will play out. We go in for him, offer under their asking price, pussy foot selling club around, they tell us he’s not for sale now & sign him to new contract. Following summer he goes for double what they were asking us & we’re left with BS stories about how the goalposts were moved for us/agent messed up deal/He was never for sale/etc.....?

If Eriksen's gone we have to sign an X-factor playmaker. Preferably one with an instant impact. So is the assumption that Zidane's appointment means Isco will be reintegrated into the squad? Because I can't think of a more ideal situation than an Isco-Eriksen swap.

They take Eriksen and send us Isco, Bale and 0.5 of their wages for 2 years? (y)

Its time to win now - not start another project.

Well they ended up getting €75m + 11m add-ons in the end so can only really blame ourselves for not paying up when it really mattered.
FFS the agent was talking to Barca and doing a deal with them as well we were never allowed to bid more or counter it once that happened. Deal closed.

For me, the most important area we need to recruit for this summer is our defensive third which does include the screen in front. See below for stats:

2015/6 - 35 goals (0.92 per game) Joint best in the division but conceded 5 in last game against relegated Geordies
2016/7 - 26 goals (0.68 per game) best in the division
2017/8 - 32 goals (0.84 per game)
2018/9 - 32 goals in 30 (1.07 per game)

For the defensive positions, I think we need at least 2 new full backs (1 each side), a strong central defender and a defensive midfielder. We will always score goals, but in tight games we seem to concede silly ones which means we lose, like against S'ton. Then we have the other areas to address such as playmaker, wide forward/Kane back up.

This is what happens when you don't invest in the squad and you end up going backwards as can be seen by goals conceded getting worse over the past 3 years.

Too many areas to address over summer which will be made harder if we don't secure top 4 as won't get the calibre.

personal frustrated opinion here but our owner could stick his hand in his pocket and help our chairman massively and we can really push on but it never bloody happens so its run as business not a plaything like Chelsea City PSG & Liverpool!!
