Not signing anyone in the summer is worse than not signing anyone now imo
I fully agree. I just meant in total. Given we didn't sign in the summer, we absolutely needed to strengthen this window. We aren't unique in world football.

Why the fek is Levy turning down loans on VJ?
Nobody wants to risk buying him on our terms. We don’t want 15m for him btw. Much less than that. Let him out on loan with a ‘view’, but not ‘obligation to buy’. His recent injury record is not encouraging. FFS
Poker. Maybe a million here or a million there is good business. Plenty of time yet.

According to Sky sports news - stalemate offloading janssen.

Could be genuine but more likely sky are getting their ducks in a row with a couple of stories to drag on to the early hours......

JIM WHITE: at 22:45 (voice has gone up an four semitones) : "breaking news in the vincent janssen story... over to some poor bastard out in the field to give us an update.."
POOR BASTARD "Hiya Jim, yep still nothing to report, same as the last 15 fucking times you tried peddling some interest in this non story.... why don't you just leave me alone and carry on trying to get Phil Thompson and Micky Quinn to sound excited about the Charlie Austin on loan to Melchester Rovers story?"

Rinse and repeat..

I never expected trying to offload Vincent Janssen on loan would be our most exciting transfer story of an entire season

Just you wait until next January when we're still trying to get rid of him, it'll be the most exciting transfer saga of the decade.

7 points off the lead, 2 behind City, and all we're doing is haggling over a player without a squad number.

We weren’t exactly ‘happy’ when Redknapp bought Saha and Nelsen in January when we were going for the top 4. It’s now 2019, we’re going for the top 2 and not only have we bought nobody, we’ve actually sold 2, maybe 3 players (including, on his day, one of the finest midfielders in the prem).

I mean... it ain’t great is it. I know the stadium cost has set us back and I still have faith, but fuck me we make it difficult for ourselves.

I’ll pray for a late signing today but if not, I still have faith for a top 4 finish as we continue, somehow, to punch above our weight. ?

I think it's more about the quality of signing we now have to go for to improve the squad. They're more difficult to obtain - especially in January - but you'll notice neither Liverpool nor City are buying anyone.

It was last summer that we needed to really prepare for better.

If there is no quality CM available now where will he come from in the summer. It will be the same players but 6 months older.
Which new player we will target in summer who do not exist now. & months doesn't make much of a difference

It isn't just about age though is it? Most clubs don't want to sell starting players in the January window. It will be a different story in the summer.
Don't ask me why we didn't sign anyone last summer though.

I don't like the message it sends to our players. Are they going to see our lack of investment in new players as a lack of ambition and want to move? We're just keeping our fingers crossed that the squad stays loyal due to Poch and the spirit he's generated around the club.

The Saha and Nelsen window was when I lost faith in Levy for the football side. Can’t deny he’s done well as a businessman tho’.

Anyway, good luck GKN & Dembele.
Hopefully we’ll get top 4 for the new stadium next season.

Completely agree.

I'm not overly fussed about the fact that we're not signing anyone to be honest. New players always take a while to adapt to Poch's methods, so it's unlikely that anyone would come in and make a big impact this season anyway. There was some gallows humour about it in the Palace match thread, but the fact is that our fixture list suddenly looks very manageable now that we're out of both cups. It's also nearly impossible to prise top prospects away from their clubs in the middle of the season.

So when you think about the fact that any new signings would be unlikely to make a big impact between now and the summer, the fact that the squad we have in place should be sufficient to handle the rest of the season just fine, and the fact that any player we sign now would likely be of a lower standard than what we might (hypothetically, in an alternate universe in which the club actually signs players) be able to get in the summer, I think it's for the best that we keep our powder dry and not waste our limited resources on players that Poch isn't enthused by.

Now, if we can't get the outgoings sorted and go into the summer window hamstrung by the same two fucking failed signings that Levy has refused to get off the books and are told that we've got to "shift the deadwood" and "create places in the squad for new signings," and it prevents us from getting business done in time for any new players to have a preseason with Poch, that will be a fucking shambles. With 18 fucking months to plan, there should be absolutely no excuses whatsoever for the coming summer window.

You want to switch the worlds best striker from his striking role and use him as a number ten ? Barmy.
Barmy - not really. Kane drops deep anyway and links play. It gives us more attacking options, more threat but if you're happy to keep going with players like Llorente as a backup then go ahead. Only my opinion don't expect everyone to agree. Remember it worked at Old Trafford with Moura.

I am pretty sure that is what everyone was saying last summer.

That is true very true but i think this season has hit home given the injuries - having said that in the grand scheme of things we are THIRD - so the squad cant be all bad.

Last summer we didnt have Toby and Eriksen with a year left of their contracts - if they leave I cannot imagine we wont buy anyone. It will be funny if we dont though - imagine the uproar and vitriol haha.

City just signed some Croatian kid and loaned him back to his club.

Liverpool have spent £250M on players since January last year - I hope that is enough to see them through this difficult time.
