Shirt deal extended to 2033.

BREAKING: Tottenham Hotspur have extended their agreement with Nike for 15 years, up to 2033.

This will be one of the largest sponsorship deals Nike have ever been involved in.

Potential New Stadium naming rights?

"In recent months we have secured an extended agreement with Nike up to 2033, one of the longest football club deals in Nike’s history. We have also announced a number of new brand partners including, amongst several others, Audi, IWC Schaffhausen, HPE and EA SPORTS."

It's a bit scary, as it will probably be very front-loaded money-wise. We'll probably have a poor looking contracto in 5-10 years. I guess we may need the extra income now, so it will work out.

That's my initial thought as well, that we've taken a long term contract to keep our head above water in short term. We remember Arsenal regretting their Emirates deal as it didn't keep up with the rise of other sponsor ship deals after a few years. Hopefully ours will be adjusted according to the market.

Unless there is a 'buyout' like Chelsea did this kinda stinks of a fattening up job. As you say, the deal is bound to lag behind other deals in just a few years.

Do i get to guess at what it means and how awful a deal it is based on half a sentence as well?

I think it means we'll be playing in a black home kit by 2029 and the cheese room will become a shrine to Michael Jordan in 2023. Also no shorts in 2030, for some reason they missed that year out of the deal.

Don't knock Jordan! His image makes more than you could imagine! If it means Spurs are all over the States due to publicity then I'd happily take some Nike / Jordan corporate marketing bollocks.

Wonder the details, as in 2030 the going rate will be very different.

That's a longer deal than they even do for full leagues. The deals with the NBA and NFL for their jerseys are each 8 years.

Something is afoot.

Atletico Madrid and Nike agreed a similar deal when their contract was last renewed, it's not uncommon.

I'd be surprised if it was just a fixed rate for that many years. There are all sorts of clauses that could be in there. Bonuses/escalators if certain targets are met, break clause options at certain points, etc.

I imagine it's a bit of longer term security, plus further commitment to our tie in to the NFL stuff and trying to create a synergy in the coming years.

Sorry to post this here but I can't see this thread and others (like the barrios one) when I go into the spurs section. But if I go to the main section and this thread was the last to receive a post I can see the preview and can then click it.

Is there some setting I've activated that hides topics? Or have I taken a hit from the mods?

Do you think that it'll lead to a transfer bonanza in the next window?

Hmmm I’m a little concerned about this Nike deal. My concern is that it is front loaded and will all be spent on fixing the errors in the stadium. So the club will miss out on using the money for transfers and wages like all the other clubs signing big sponsorship deals.

If it includes a stadium sponsorship deal then it’s a bit odd to half announcement it this way.

I think we'll operate as we always do. The size of the pot is irrelevant. If the club find the deal for a player acceptable it will be done.

I suspect the kit deal will be more about the off field stuff, growing and consolidating the business over the foreseeable future, which in turn impacts what money is available to strengthen the team.

In my opinion of course the size of the pot is relevant. If the pot is bigger then the club will find more expensive deals to be acceptable. If we have to spend all or a significant amount of this Nike deal on fixing the stadium then we can’t invest it in our playing squad like our rivals do with their large sponsorship deals.

I think these "we've gone and recklessly signed a quick deal to pay for the stadium" conspiracy theories I see forming tonight need to stop. They wont, but we can but hope.....

What I meant was that the club operates in a certain way, that is obvious to me at least. Even if there is potentially a hundred million a year to spend (as an example) the club won't just go out and spend it - as we saw last summer. If there is the key target in what they consider a key position/role/attribute they bring to the team then they will often, and actually contrary to what is believed, have quite a track record of paying considerable sums with not much hassle - see Sanchez as the latest one in this line of player. Key targets, as we are seeing though, are becoming more and more difficult to obtain. Where it's more a player we might like who is one of a number of options the club are more cautious and strive for value and are more and more not spending for the sake of it. I don't see that changing a great deal in the next few years.

Chuffed with this as Nike are best kit makers.

(Apart from this seasons atteocious home shirt but hopefully they’ll go back to the clean looking kit of last season in future years).

But then again we'll have a bigger stadium than everyone apart from United, and with much higher ticket prices so may balance out?
