Because stuff you read isn’t always true. Or is it?I don't know how we are not in at this price.
I would be shocked if AC Milan spent €60m on him. Though maybe having won their FFP ban overturn they are feeling peckish (genuinely surprised they've not gone bankrupt yet). That said if he was really available for just €60m a PL team would have made that happen in my opinion. He is probably on the list of players a lot of European sides are still on the market once the PL window closes and then they may have a shot at getting a slightly cut price on. Still seems dumb we are not in this discussion but we seem intent on being extra ambivalent this window.Ah so it turns out quite literally every but us are in for him
Mateo Kovacic emerges as AC Milan target with Manchester City, United and Chelsea set to battle for Real Madrid star
AC Milan are readying an offer for Mateo Kovacic to spark a frantic transfer battle.
Inter Milan are also keen on re-signing the Croatia midfielder, who wants to leave the Bernabeu in search of first team football.
Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all monitoring the situation but will have to move quickly to sign the Real Madrid star before next Thursday's deadline.
The Croatia international is determined to exit the Bernabeu this summer in search of first team football.
And La Repubblica believe the first option could be a return to Milan - where he spent two years with rivals Inter - with the Rossoneri set to table the first offer in the coming days.
Los Blancos will not deal for less than €60m (£53m) for the 24-year-old, which could secure almost treble the €22m they paid for Kovacic in 2015.
His wage demands may be OTT. We struggle to compete with the big boys.I don't know how we are not in at this price.
Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool have all already bought their CM's this summer and he wants to play every game he possibly can so he wouldn't want to go to City. Doesn't make sense to leave Real and join City, same kind of log jam.I would be shocked if AC Milan spent €60m on him. Modric and Kovacic supposedly available for decent prices yet we're looking at Dani Ceballos instead. Just about sums up our window so far.
Welcome to 2018. I was reacting to the recent posts about Kovacic being available for €60m, while Modric would of course cost more but was more me just making a point than actually expecting us to sign him.I read that they want €100m for Modric and £80m for Kovacic. Yeah, 'decent prices'.
Do we even know if Poch wants him?If he indeed is available and joins AC Milan for ~€60m then I just cant see how anyone can defend Levy and/or our transfer decision group.
CM is clearly a position we are looking to upgrade, the guy is still young with bags of potential. $60m or so isnt ridiculous in this market and there is no reason we cant match whatever AC Milan can offer in terms of salary.

Exactly, as JJ said. It's not come out who we are interested in. It might well be Kovacic, but equally, it could be Schneiderlin (God help us!)How do you even know Poch wants him? What you mean is, you want him and you're having a paddy because the club, as far as you're aware, don't feel the same.
Forget about unattainable targets like Zaha and Martial. We're crying out for a decent CM - it's by far our biggest weakness. £53m for Kovacic is not cheap but it's not extortionate either. Certainly doable for a club of our size and I'd imagine his wage demands wouldn't be elite level either.
If we aren't even interested in signing him then I can only conclude something is seriously wrong with our strategy during this window.
