It's less the quality of Grealish and more that we appear to have spent two months on a player we weren't that fussed on whilst seemingly nothing else was happening.

I would have more confidence in Levy providing what we need if I didn't have memories of Moutinho, Saha, the Fazio/Stambouli debacle, Sissoko, and many other examples of how he's not quite as good at this as he thinks he is. He's a very good businessman, surely he can see that money in will equal success?

At one stage, pre the money being pumped into Villa, seems logical that we could have got Grealish. In true Levy fashion,to save a few quid, it's gone Pete Tong

As I've said before, I have rated him since he was in the premier league and you may well be right that most people weren't hankering after him but it is a shame we aren't buying him.
Hopefully he won't sign a new contract and we'll still be able to pick him up next summer.

Alternatively, we revisit a deal where everybody got dicked around and Grealish, Villa and everybody else tells us to do one. Wouldn't be the first time.

Well like who in CM? Frankly I am not keen with Grealish but at the moment “no fish, prawn can do” in Singaporean style.

In terms of alternatives I'm surprised we were never strongly linked to Amadou Haidara of RB Salzburg. Watching him in Europa league he looked the perfect Pochettino CM plus with his age there was big potential for increase in value which suits Levy.

I agree. He signed a new contract early after the season finished and we were never linked again after this.

Haidara signed a contract extension shortly afterwards ... Salzburg have already lost 2 first teamers Berisha (Lazio) and Caleta-Car (Marseille) and Samassekou the other CM is strongly linked with a move away - can't see Haidara moving this window

According to Daily Mail Grealish told his teammates he wants to go to Spurs.

One of the ITK's said this had deadline day written all over it. Wouldn't be surprised if Villa reignite this one late in the window at Levy's price.

I wonder of there is any chance of this one getting it's pulse back. I really do think he'd be a lovely addition to the squad and could learn a lot playing alongside Dembele, Winks, Eriksen, Dele etc for the foreseeable

Sancho, Sessegnon, and now Grealish. Each with different circumstances, but a trio of English talent I think they'll regret not getting over the line in both the short and long term. Only going to get pricier, tougher to bring in, and less likely to be worth the investment. These are the kind of moves they made to succeed when they couldn't provide top dollar, and now it looks like they're just doing neither. Not too worried about this window in particular, but it's a worrying trend that is going to catch up with us.

Not a chance. Only way this happens now is to pay OTT.

The chance was there to get this done at a reasonable price and we kept delaying it.

This deal had a lot of upsides.

Hopefully for a good reason. I'm not a huge Grealish guy, but I have a lot of faith in Poch's ability to get the most out of players.

Can’t say I am too fussed about not getting Grealish.

Only got my head around it on basis he was home grown, a reasonable price and kept Sissoko off the pitch.
