I honestly cannot believe how quickly this thread has reached 200 pages, smacks volumes over our lack of transfer activity this window

Not only that but we may not even end up signing him

Our transfer news have been relatively secure since the days of Redknapp and Sherwood. Son and Sanchez came out of the blue; I hope we have someone in mind who's better than Grealish.

I think this posturing from the new owners to get as much as possible. Levy tried to get the price down with the previous owners. Now the new owners want more for him. Its up to us to cough up if we really want him.

From the BBC website regarding QPRs FFP settlement:

'The settlement includes a £17m fine, paying £3m of the EFL's legal costs and the agreement from club shareholders to write off £22m of outstanding loans.

QPR will also be under a transfer embargo for the January 2019 window.

It is believed the EFL have agreed to a payment schedule over 10 years.

The London club's case relates to breaking spending limits on their way to winning promotion to the Premier League in 2014, with QPR's wages of more than £75m making up 195% of their turnover of £38.6m.'

So they have been able to put off paying their FFP fines since 2014 because they took it to court. They also only have to endure a transfer embargo for 1 window which is in January.

They've had to pay more but if Villa take this route with their new owners they can still in theory keep all of their players, continue to add to their squad, get back into the Premier League and then just miss out on one measly January transfer window 4 years down the line.

Bit of a joke if you ask me

No, ffp is measured over 3 year period. Villa have made £150m losses since 2014 and need to make drastic cuts to come in line.

Good info, thanks for sharing. If they don't pay however could they end up with a similar one window embargo and the paying off in instalments like QPR did though do you/ anybody know?

I don't think we're going to get him anymore - we're not going to pay £30-40m for him

I dont think they will ask for 40m. They still have to sell because of FFP. I just think they'll want a fairer price than what Levy has been trying to get it down to. I would guess around 25m plus add ons for around the 30m mark. I think that's fair in todays market. Levy sanctioned 30m on Sissoko 2 years ago so I wouldn't be surprised to see him cough up on Grealish. Especially given he also has more sell on value than Sissoko had too.

Heavy rumours from Villa's side of things suggests FFP is not something they need to address right now - there are ways around it

Id like to remind everyone we started off this shit show of a window linked to bale. Now we’re not even going to sign a championship player. Great job, levy.
It is a bit funny the few amount of links we've had that this thread is at 203 pages.

I think the first 150 were complaints about how we shouldn't buy him, then there were about 10 where he was pukka, then the other 40-odd have been complaints about how we aren't buying him :hilarious:

I'm sure we'll sign him or an alternative before window closes, maybe even another player if we're incredibly fortunate. However as the days pass it's near on impossible for any signing to be starting that first game of the season and seeing as most of our team hasn't even had a pre season it's really poor preparation. We've known for weeks that those players were going deep into World Cup and we seem to have made no effort to speed things. I can't lie I'm very worried about what kind of start we are going to make to the season, it feels a little messy if add in current injuries too.

We've done nothing so far, we seem further away from a signing than 8 weeks ago and still we have many players within the squad that should not still be here. It's very strange as I don't feel like there's panic at club regarding it though which I'm clinging on to mean something may happen this week.

For some dumb reason I thought with us moving into a new stadium we'd make some sort of statement signing, not a superstar like Bale but at least something to get the fans who've shipped out a huge amount on new season tickets to get bit excited about. If it does pan out way it could we'll be going into new stadium with many fans feeling pretty meh about where we're going.

Probably just posturing to avoid getting screwed on fees

From the few articles and what not that I've read, the new owners/investors at Villa wouldn't have any issues paying any fine they receive for FFP - granted that could be a load of shit...
