Going back a bit - Nico Claesen. Back when foreign signings were still an exotic novelty, he joined after the '86 World Cup where he helped Belgium to 3rd place (take note Toby, Jan, Mousa). But despite fans hoping he would be a big success, he never really established himself. Kind of the Soldado of his day. According to his stats scored 18 times in two seasons though, which is certainly a lot more than I remember.

Claesen was actually a cracking little player, but Pleat only played one up top while he was here, and Clive Allen was banging them in so Claesen never got much of a chance. Thought he'd only played about a dozen games for us, so those 18 goals do come as a surprise!)

John Bostock was one that always puzzled me. Played a few friendlies and he was really impressive, but he was one of that crop that had a million loan moves around. He's since gone to Antwerp, Leuven and is now at Lens, but the funny thing is, he's still only 25.

Jamie Slabber - made one appearance for us coming on as a sub against Liverpool in 2003, and has since gone on to play for sixteen teams, including Greys Athletic four times.

Mbelulo Mabizela (sp?) - I remember the name and that he was a defender but more than that... blank.

And who was that lad who left our academy and went on to play all over the world in the J-League, K-League, Arabian leagues etc.? He's done interviews on his globe trotting career and i can picture him but can't for the life of me put a name to it.
The word at the time was that the youth coaches at Spurs misguidedly tried to totally remodel Bostock’s game to get him to be this Gerrard-like powerful box-box midfielder, but it just never really worked and shattered his confidence.

He was always more of a number 10 type, and that’s where he’s been playing in Belgium and France.

Milenko acimovic and jonathan blondel, was convinced both would make it with us. Yep, next.

Dalmat was quality when in the mood.

Im sure we signed a fella called steven ferguson from alloa or summat like that.

John piercy i thought would break through, had some injuries though i think.

I remember everyone being excited about qu bo when he had a trial!

Good ol' Nicola Berti. I remember being really excited we signed him, probably because he came from Inter Milan.
Berti came on to Australia after Spurs playing for a new Sydney Side Northern Spirit. Underwhelming in spite of the Spurs connection;)

I thought the problem with Bostock started when he became ultra religious.

I used to know Paul Morgan, he is 2yrs younger than me. He grew up on the estate across the road from mine in Lytchett Way, I lived in Sherborne Ave. Me and my mate's used to play football with him occasionally and couldn't believe he was at Spurs, a few of us were definitely better than him in our early teens! Apparently there was a PE teacher at Albany School, where he attended, who was always in the ear of the Spurs scouts and somehow managed to get him in the Spurs youth set up along with another kid, Richard Cook. There was another kid also, who lived next door to me, Steve Smart, the same PE teacher got him into Spurs too, I think he ended up at Woking then disappeared from the game. My conclusion was ' Bollocks! I went to the wrong school!!':D

Didn't we nearly sign some guff French striker at the start of Fruitini's brief stint? We took him on loan/trial.

Great thread!

Back in the 60s, Roy Woolcott was scoring goals regularly in the reserves. I wanted him to get a chance in the first team. He did, at Ipswich in 1969. We lost, he was substituted and never played again. Went to Gillingham in 1972.

Lee Hodges - made 4 sub appearances and just discovered he's manager of Truro who have progressed to 1st Round of FA Cup.

Dalmat(?) ... probably one of the most skilful players I've seen whilst being one of the worst footballers at the same time. He 'starred' in our 3-4 loss to 10 man Citeh under Keegan.

Pretty sure that's Rohan Ricketts mate, think he's been on the fighting cock podcast

Steven Slade and Jeff Minton. Obscure strikers who can't have played more than 3 games for us between them in the early 90s.
Minton came through the acadamy i think and scored a goal on a '100 great spurs goals' i had on vhs. He actually went on to do pretty well for brighton as a midfielder when they nearly folded

Paul Moran. Forward. 36 games and 2 goals in the 80s and 90s. His Wikipedia entry says "Paul Moran (born 23 May 1968) is an English retired football forward". And that's it. Does anyone here know more than that because I don't.

He went on to play for Enfield FC after injuring his knee, I used to live opposite the Enfield chairman growing up and used to get into the games free so saw a lot of him, especially when Tottenham played pre season friendlies at Enfield's Southbury Road ground... The club doesn't exist anymore because the chairman turned out to be a bit of a crook and miss-appropriated a load of the clubs cash to pay off debts.

The squad this year. It was probably the end of an era, decade and then some, of absolute dross as the whole Santini/Jol/Funtime Frankie thing started after that. But the five Irish players, Keane, Carr, Doherty, Kelly and Mark Yeates feed my enthusiasm for club and country. I was at Molineux on the final day of the season to see Yeates set up Keane for a goal.

Then the revolution and goodbye to 14th place finishes...
