What a game.....

frankly.... i thot i was gonna be "one of those days" A stunning opening goal, a goalkeeper on his game, and us blowing our chances.

Think we showed character in our fight back. things really went against us in the match, but i am glad we came out on top.

Their keeper was appalling throughout

Just home from the match and wow, what a game!
There was some terrible performances today - Dier, CCV, Wimmer, Onomah but the worst has got to be Sissoko - he was just awful.... we got away with it today but if we go into a PL game needing CCV and Wimmer as our CBs we wont get top 4.

I hope our name is on the cup with the luck we got today - who knows but I left the ground feeling gutted for Wycombe as they deserved a replay but so relieved we got that winner.

The place erupted when Son scored that which was amazing but some of them players should feel embarrassed today.
Tell me another PL side with better 4th and 5th choice CBs? This sort of attitude is just ridiculous

Also there was a family of Wycombe fans on my tube home and they were still buzzing that they had taken a team of our stature so close and going on about hopefully getting another away game at a PL team in a cup next year, that is what makes the FA cup so important and I wish the top teams would stop treating it with such contempt.

I can't believe people left early today. One of the booers left at 3 2 so I'm glad he missed us winning the game.

Totally agree, that has gone down as one of the classics at WHL for me and it never felt over whether we were 2-0 down, 3-2 down or even when we went 4-3 up

I get where you are coming from - but respectfully disagree. He made 9 changes, he fielded and inexperienced team who never play with one another - he took an unnecessary risk and he almost shot himself in the foot. It's not the first time he has done this and it has NEVER worked. EVER, NEVER EVER - and that is what is so frustrating.
Fine - you want to rest some players - The Full Backs are interchangeable. Bar that change one or two, like for like - but CV and Wimmer as your newbie CB pairing with Vorm behind them. Onomah (Bambi on ice) out of position etc etc - he took the gamble and disrespected Wycombe - believing that our second string, who never play together, would simply win the game. It was awful and a mistake that has been repeated 3 seasons on the trot - all for that coveted CLge spot that we screwed up this season.
Change 4 players - fine. But to risk it all to protect the first team in its entirety and almost get knocked out by a 4th tier team at HOME - was unbearable to watch and is still unbearable to swallow.
We win 4 more games we win the cup - surely that's worth going for?!?! A TROPHY M'Lord please - our current staring X1 should be biting at the bit to want to win a trophy, they've just had a week off in Spain!
Make trophy winning a habit and a desire for the starting X1.
Oh and play the entire second string forever in the Europa League. (worst trophy ever invented).
We win the FA cup this season and a top 4 finish - would be a brilliant result.
We started the match with 6 players with plenty of international experience, 4 current under-21 internationals and 1 former under-21. 9 of the 11 starters have been at the club for multiple seasons, have learned the system together, trained together daily and played plenty of games together. There was pleny of talent, experience and familiarity in that team to be able to put out an efficient, professional performance against a League 2 team. The players underperformed. Players who have played, and thrived, in major international tournaments alongside players they rarely play with, made themselves look embarrassing.

This post got 5 disagrees and counting. Can somebody explain how he wa anything but shit. Just off the top of my head, the flap in the first half which allowed son to miss an open goal, the miss garher to allow Sissoko to have a shot, his kick for Deles goal, his positioning for Deles goal and his non gather from the free kick. The only good thing he did was the save from Janssen which on review of the replay was a lot easier than he made it look.

Just seen the highlights - bloody hell that winner from Son...I think we may have used up a fair chunk of our FA Cup luck with that one. That said, what's all this about playing the last 20 mins with only 10 men?

Trippier went off injured.

Tripper had to go off with an injury, and we had used all three subs.

At times I thought I was watching a game of rugby. I have not seen such a cynical display of blatant fouling since Barcelona in '82.

For me;

Their first goal was actually a really good finish.
Their penalty was unlucky from CCV's point of view.
They took us out of our 'Premiership' comfort zone physically and bought the battle (and the Ref) down to their level.
While we looked disjointed; we still got the job done.

Cheer up lads; Wycombe played REALLY well, took the game to us and it nearly worked. I don't think it's fair to take the credit they deserve away.

Glad I went to this game now having only got hold of a ticket yesterday. I failed in my attempt for a ticket for Everton so decided to go to this one instead. Whether it will be my last game at WHL or not it will at least be a much more memorable one than the last one I went to against West Brom last season. I can only say this was a great match having won it at the end though. For sheer entertainment it was excellent even if i was frustrated with our performance overall.

First half in particular we were far too casual. I think our players still had their heads in Barcelona. Fair play to Wycombe though because they were in our faces from the start. They hit the bar early on which was an early wake up call that we were in a game today. It was clear that one team started off thinking it would be a stroll in the park and another team playing the games of their lives. They deserved to lead at half time. I didn't think the penalty was correct but when you dive in like that it gives the ref the decision to make.

Second half we were better. We created decent chances but our finishing was not good. However Wycombe still looked dangerous and we couldn't handle their physicality particularly in the air. Once we got a foot hold in the game they started making tactical fouls. It was frustrating but you can't blame them. They played the way they had too, unsettle us and rough us up at every opportunity. Our quality saved us in the end though and what late drama it was.

This is definitely one I look forward to seeing the highlights for. A FA Cup classic and proof that the FA Cup can still show signs of magic. I wish I could have watched it knowing we were going to win because it would have been much more exciting in the moment. I couldn't bring myself to celebrate the 2 equalisers. Sure I pumped my fist and clapped but I wasn't jumping around singing. We shouldn't have even been in that position. Once the winner went in I was happy but more relieved than anything. Yet now that it's over I'm glad it was a 4-3 thriller rather than a comfortable 3-0 stroll.

If this is the last game I watch at the Lane then at least it was an exciting one to watch.

Have missed the early parts of this thread, but I was surprised to see Janssen not starting. He is clearly still finding his feet but I'd have thought he would have been given the nod to try and give him a chance to end his barren run.

Bit of a slap in the face for him. At least he came on and made a difference.

As Poch apparently said after the game:

"If you cannot play in this type of game, we will have a problem."

Yes they weren't first team starters out there to begin the match, however they are part of the first team squad and if that group of players aren't able to beat a team 3 divisions below then questions need to be asked of their ability to replace our first team when called upon
