Apologies if off topic but I read something quite interesting the other day (but can't find a link to it) that went into the circus behind the football industry and how (for a large group of fans) the most boring part of football is actually watching the game...

There is a large proportion of people who actively dislike watching a game of football but love to talk about a team, join in the banter of taking the piss out of opposing teams and how rubbish players are because of x, y, z, etc... yet sit them infront of a normal game and their attention will drift to the point where they're not watching or taking in anything that happens on the pitch.

Made me think about this place and the levels of joy / happiness (or lack of) you find in the match threads compared to this or the West Ham threads.

I do know what you mean to some extent though. I'd agree that when I watch games at home (even spurs games sometime) I'll now be on here or coys and not 100% watching the game. It must be down to the novelty factor of football on tv wearing off or just that the presentation is boring or the games really have lost their spark. In terms of spurs games it could just be the nervousness it brings out. Or it could just be having two children and having them stop me concentrating on a game!

It's the complete opposite watching all the home games at WHL though, I'm 100% focused on the game. I'm in the 6th row from the pitch though so do feel very involved in the match. Plus obviously the whole experience is totally different.

It's for another thread though but I think the saturation and amount of football on tv is to blame.

Gerrard saying goodbye to fans in LA, speculation he will return to liverpool, do hope this is true, just as they get some kind of balance in their squad, bring back a "golden generation" entitled self-regarding "celebrity" footballer to mess things up....well I hope so at least :)

Would love it to be in a coaching capacity, can you imagine him teaching Coutinho the headless chicken style of midfield play. Gerrard had a lot of great moments but most of them were nothing to do with good tactical positioning or reading of the game and more to do with cracking a 30-yd piledriver.

I was always on the Gerrard side of the Gerrard or Lampard debate but if I was to have either of them as a coach I'd go for Lampard all day long. More limited as a player but he knew how to work for the team, find space and get on the end of scrappy knock downs (you don't get that many deflected goals with only luck on your side...)

I'll save the laughing bit after we beat them today.
One of the many things I've learnt from the rollercoaster of supporting Spurs is that if you wait till the end of the season to be happy and join in the banter then you'll never get a chance to have some fun.

Jump in and poke fun where you can, we get enough stick throughout the season so why not dish some back again (y)

p.s. it's lge cup nobody cares if our reserve team loses to their reserve team (unless we win in which case WE'RE THE GREATEST TEAM IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!)

Anyone else a little concerned how tight they are looking this season. There attack is really clicking were as ours seems to be chocking. I see many people saying Kane's absence is the reason but he was hardly on fire before his injury. Are we just unlucky, do they have a better attack then us or are they better drilled then us? After last season I really thought we would dominate on all fronts but time and time again I see our attack struggle to make any sort of impact. Our defence is second to none and it's a beautiful thing but I do worry that our attack, even when all are fit, is lacking. I hate Liverpool and I hate watching them be more affective then us in attack.

I don't think it's so much a case of them having a better attack in terms of technical or physical ability, but more the way they're being drilled and their attitude towards attacking. They have a right go at teams. They win so many penalties because they're getting into the box, really driving forward. They've sacrificed defence at times to do so, Klopp is playing a dangerous game, and against better sides they will have to be more cautious, but for the most part it's working. Then again, they've not got a great defence anyway, I wouldn't take any of their back 5 over ours. Klopp's playing to his strengths. He knows they've got a bit of everything in that attack - creativity, pace, technique. I'm not surprised they're scoring so freely.

I made the thread about us being too risk averse in Spurs Chat, and watching Liverpool pick up wins like this makes me feel that we certainly could do with taking a few more risks.

They have a better attack than us. Klopp has drilled his players to make fast runs when in the final third. The player on the ball always has options and they carve better goalscoring chances than us.

When we approach the final third we're lucky to have 1 player making a run so our options are usually a sideways pass, try and get a crossing opportunity or try and force the issue.

There's little doubt in my mind that they'll challenge this year. We have a better defence but not conceding many goals doesn't always get you 3 points whilst scoring more than the opposition always will...

Playing some very good stuff this season. Hopefully their sloppy defense will cost them, but their attacking football is probably the best in the league.

They don't have any European football to worry about either so they get to field more or less the same fresh 11 once a week, much like what helped Leicester last season.

The current Liverpool love in is all because Klopp comes across as this charismatic guy that gives good sound bites to the press.

Last season we pressed and were incredible in the final third like they are currently BUT we also had a shit hot defence and I didn't see this level of praise.

10 games in and one single clean sheet in a 0-0, they're not going to win the title like that. All it takes is a drop in form/injury for one or two of their forward line and they'll come unstuck.

I agree, I don't think they can win the title like that but they are going to be challenging for the title. this week break is benefiting them massively as well.

OMG, that is so awful for Danny Ings. Did anyone see how it happened? I can't recall it from the game at all.
