Janssen cannot play in this league as a lone striker

Yet.

He has joined us after 2/3 of a season of success in a league full of patsies, with a much slower rate of play and lower fitness levels.

Like Son, who stepped up from a better, faster league than Janssen, and Lamela, who joined us from a much slower and more conservative league, he's going to need a season to adjust his fitness (physical and mental) and his game-plan to be effective in England. This season, Pochettino will be working on him and with him.

Son and Lamela have turned themselves into effective Premiership players under his tutelage. If Janssen has as much ability as he appears to have, so will he. But it will take some time. He had a great deal less prior experience than Son or Lamela and such experience as he did have was in an inferior league.

I think our player recruitment in the summer is what could ultimately cost us a title push. Batshuayi and Boufal instead of Janssen and Sissoko would've made way more sense given our needs.

In fact, the knock on effect of missing out Batshuayi seems to have led to the Sissoko purchase. Had Poch got Batshuayi, I don't think Levy would have felt the pressure to sanction the fee for Sissoko.

I don't doubt that there is a great player in Janssen, and he's certainly in the right place to be nurtured into one.

My gripe is with our transfer strategy. We didn't need an up-and-coming striker to deputise for Kane. We needed a tried and tested PL goalscorer to fill in for Kane whenever he was missing.

Somebody like Charlie Austin would have been great IMO.

Thought Lamela was poor today & missed the clearest chance we had, hitting the ball high wide & handsome. Thought Poch should have taken him off & not Son when Janssen came on & we may have had more of a goal threat.

Statistically most teams struggle after mid week games, especially on a 12.30 kick off. We didnt concede yet again, not worried at all here. Old spurs lose that game

I beg to differ, Bournemouth didn't have plenty of chances at all, we had more than them, they had one shot on target and a couple of headers off target, the way they pressed and fought us in the first half may lead people to believe they had chances but they didn't and the second half was one way traffic until near the end when they actually got to our box but even then they only had the one header.
we didn't dominate and were well off our best, certainly in the first half but Bournemouth most certainly didn't deserve to win, unless we judge them differently to ourselves.

It got me wondering what is our best. Certainly the mcity game and many other games but its not our usual game, is it. We are better than the WBA and the Bournemouth game, the trouble is we are not consistent enough at the top table. I'm afraid we just flatter to deceive.

No way on earth would Real sell Modric, think that was a wildly optimistic statement. I think every top team in the world would want him and rightly so. Now the undisputed best Midfielder in the world bar none. Even 60-70 mil wouldn't secure him in my opinion.

More to the point, would Ol' Gibbsy want him back?

I think we are closer to our best when Toby is playing, not because he is a superman but because he brings a momentum to our game, when he wins the ball or collects a loose ball out of the opponents half he is already looking to start the attack again which he is good enough to do, and I think further up the field they are prepared for it.
It doesn't make us a one man team and he is not a match winner but it ups the odds in our favour enough to make the difference.

I usually skim through these match threads after a game, and pretty much every one of them leaves me with the same impressions:

1)that there are a large number of fans who have a very limited understanding of football yet think they're experts.
2)that far too many people get ridiculously angry over something which is ultimately supposed to be entertainment, and which they have absolutely no control over.

...and thank you Boro! Arsenal scored with 2 mins to go - offside, then Walnut missed from 6 yards - judged offside. Phew!

I remember why I don't come in here on match days or on here in general anymore. Too many "Football experts" that think they know better than everyone else including our manager.

We didn't lose against a side good at home and off the back of scoring 6 in their last game. We're still unbeaten, we're still 3rd, get over it and move onto the next game.

........ I refer to what I said last week after the game against West Brom...

No excuses, we should be beating teams like these.

No point beating ManC to give yourself a great chance then fuck up completely against lowly minnows. Another pathetic and disappointing same old Spurs result...

Arsenal couldn't beat Boro' at home so that helps with a bit of perspective I hope.
Not really, I don't give a monkeys what they get up to.

I care what we get up to and shouldn't be relying on other results going our way for a bit of perspective.

The fact is, We did a brilliant job against ManC, then fucked up the two following results to completely waste what that great result was.

Today, was a pathetic result, there is not other perspective. If it wasn't for the same old Spurs, we could be sitting 4 points clear at the top of the table.

Not poor perhaps, but you can bet your house on Arsenal and City beating Bournemouth. We haven't got enough to be title winners just yet. We aren't creating anywhere near enough chances.

Would you have bet your house on Arsenal beating Boro at home?
