Seems perfectly reasonable behaviour to me and makes more sense than a lot of stuff he's said and done in the past.
I used to talk to a bowl of rice in bed too, but it was just pilau talk.

My talks can end in arguments too, especially when I accuse it of being sarcastic. 'So I'm sarky now', the rice whines.
