Neither team between the two has a disctive style of play especially going forward. Benteke is the sort of player who can play in any system because of the vast array of qualities he has.

If for some cruel reason that Soldado doesn't come off, I can see us revisiting this one. A contract extension doesn't in any way mean his price will change unless it's in the last year or 2, which it wasn't. I believe part of it was a ploy by him and his agent, but I also think he'd jump at the chance to play for a bigger club.

New contract on higher wages should really make his fee lower. Before, Villa couldn't have replaced him with anyone near his talent level at the same low wages they were paying him. That's why he was more valuable to them than to us.
I know his fee won't come down, btw.

Still, I'm more than happy we went for Soldado instead, I never even believed he was even a genuine option. Better finishing and movement and has more intelligence to his game. Obviously Benteke is more powerful and extremely good in the air.

I don't know what sort of game he had but fuck me I could play 90 minutes of the same game, running about whilst eating a fucking Big Mac and score 2 penalties too. He may have had a good game anyway, but I just mean it's ludicrous to reopen the debate on whether or not we should have bought him off the back of today.
