Economics isn't always easy to streamline. And to be fair, I am just postulating a possibility

But what I am saying as that while Arsenal haven't been free-spending since the Emirates, the monetary deals surrounding it are so good that it would be hard for another owner not to notice. And if you thought you get close to the 60m per year they make off just those 3 items (we make 20m at most) then it might be worth investing to give yourself negotiating leverage. Say we come in 2nd and we've made UCL 3 out of the last 5 years. Well we won't need to extend an existing contract for one more year....that's for certain. So spend now, before FFP hits hard to help get a deal for the stadium and pull back after.

This could totally be a crap opinion. But it's something to consider.

I agree with that definitely. Strike while the iron is hot and the long term positives will be aplenty.

Out of interest, how much do you realistically think we can get from sponsorship for the stadium? What percentage will that be of the overall cost? And how long would it roughly take after the stadium is built before we can go back to a un-restricted level of spending?

I would take Arsenal as an example, but I'm not sure if their lack of spending has been down to the stadium costs or Wenger's stubbornness to stick with the same squad. (Sorry if a bit off topic but talking about stadiums raised some questions in my head)

I can't get excited about all this potential spending just yet. I hope it's true but it's very much I'll believe it when I see it.

Who was that player we have on our books but LLM said he just refuses every offer that comes his way? I'm sure he has a link or a fondness to a rather large & successful American firm? So this may explain his deep reluctance to move on?
Ha! Just to fill you in, appreciating you are hospitalised: you may be wondering what's going on? It's not the morphine, you haven't woken up in a dreamy reverie or ITK heaven. It's real!
Wave after wave of ITK are GENUINELY arriving with wonderous news of the future... :)

The giant wild haired elephant creature in the corner of your room means you no harm either, he'll be off to Hull soon. Bdm tsh!

Jasper is up there with archibald as the best itks (in my book). Am getting excited now.

Not a dig at Jasper, but the only posters verified by Paul Smith (the head honcho on SO) as ITK are Archibald and Roger Morgan. With the exceptions of JJ, Rebrab, POTL, Storts, LLM, Peanut (when he was around) and probably Dragon1, I'd say that seems like a fair estimation.

Plus the fact that the REALLY like to push the envelope with their jerseys/uniforms/kits on their flagship teams (see: University of Maryland).

they did this as a counter to Phil Knight (Nike) and Oregon. Since the owner of UA went to Maryland, he decided to see if they could sway recruiting as more kids would go there if the uniforms were edgy. This hasn't worked great because their coach is an idiot and doesn't know what he's doing. What Kevin Plank did with Maryland would never happen anywhere else.

Daws? About the only one who I can think of who has personal deals with UA. Wears their boots I think? Or "cleats" I guess I should start calling them in honour of our new Merikun overlords.

No it was just a really really crap joke about Huddlestone & McDonalds.

I'd get my coat if I had one & was allowed out of here.

It's a tough one. And so I won't hazard a guess. We don't have the brand recognition of Arsenal at this time. So you would think that we couldn't match them. But our timing is kind of good because the market for stadia naming rights is so new and has so few opportunities. We're lucky that Liverpool failed, in this way. We are the only one selling goods right now. West Ham soon, but they are a non-existent brand outside of England and people who watched Green St.

Most clubs can't rename their grounds, so it's only possible with new pitches typically. Nobody here would accept renaming WHL. But they have all accepted the new stadium will not retain such a charming name. So a company might well pay us more than we deserve....to get into one of the few good opportunities to attach your name to one of two or three biggest global sports brand (EPL) in the world in such an big way. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

As for the wild haired elephant creature you speak of, I just figured it was the butch female porter who keeps passing me my crutches when I want to get up. She's called Dave!!

I just went through last summers itk to remind me how reliable he is. Got majority spot on, which is more than some others.

This window has already been amazing for players in, I don't have a scooby about where Bale will be come October, but I know we've a stronger squad than last year.

I love watching Spurs, and this season will be interesting times - a Chinese curse. Being number one...well, thats outside my comfort zone to imagine but I could see 4th, 3rd maybe....god knows

love the club, love this thread..... can't wait to see what happens next

This is where we find out that Evil Chirpy has been away playing the stock market with his severence packet, plotting, planning, biding his time, plotting again and has amassed a huge global wealth with which to partner with us, sponsor the stadium for $1bn and turn it into a 62,000 seater football stadium masterpiece/evil villian lair hybrid.
