The longer this all goes on, the more I think of LLM's ITK post about us ending up with a Madrid player and Bale staying. The best way for them to pay us back for Modric if they're skint is to give us Coentrao this summer and raise funds between now and next July.

I can see Modric going to Man U to raise funds.if they don't get Fabregas

You don't make someone captain just because they are your star player. That's lame.

We are struggling for a captain right now and have been for while. Dawson has great endeavour but is a poor leader, doesn't read and organise, is nowhere near vocal enough and isn't first choice. Parker's off soon. Sandro is maybe a little too crazy horse, Vertonghen is possibly the best candidate, but does he feel ready to be the gaffer ?

It's a toughie, but surely not Bale.

Where the fuck is the rest of the 50m war chest/ interest free loan or whatever going to be spent? We have had zero info on anyone other than soldier. Remy is off somewhere else I think ssn said.

I'm curious as to who we might be looking at as opposed to Soldado, too. It might just be that a lot of the info right now revolves around Soldado/Bale at the moment (and rightfully so) and other potential targets are taking a backseat. The only other ITK-linked players recently have been Sanchez, Coentrao, Song and McCarthy.

Is it just me or is this all getting a bit Groundhog Day in here? I know my alarm is gonna wake me up tomorrow to "I got you babe" then we will start chatting about Soldado, an ITK will tell us it's close, then Bale will be brought up, then an ITK will calm us...and so the cycle continues.

Not negative. It's just the way it has been got days now! Weeks even!

Why are we talking about Bale going still has there been negative ITK since the cobra not yet in the RO or is it just our usual general pessimistic nature? Can't be arsed to read back in all honesty

Just playing devils advocate for a second, even if we reconciled to Bale leaving for a record breaking fee - how on earth are we going to get any value in deals this summer. Even if we agree to sell to Madrid in principal and try to do our shopping now, before announcing the sale - it will still be a nightmare (I know we are doing Soldado presently, but that's slightly different) Everybody will know we are on the verge of receiving a massive some of money, and that will inflate prices massively for us.

To be honest I think Madrid's tactics are playing into our hands, because our hands are going to be tied to an extent. We simply will get quoted ridiculous prices for whoever we go after, they'll all want a slice of the Bale pie.

The other option would be to not really spend the Bale money, like United did at the time. But of course that isn't an option for us, because we would regress immediately.

I'm sure Levy will be considering all this very carefully. I still think he'll stay another season but we'll work out a deal that enables him to leave next season - talks could drag on for ages over that though. For all Madrid's efforts this summer, its still laying the ground work for next summer.

I just can't see how accepting a deal now is what's best for us. On the other hand, if we spend big now - we do so safe in the knowledge that we can command a huge fee for Bale next season. It underlines our ambition to others and our exposure continues to rise with Bale at the Club, and of course we have a much better chance of securing Champions League - which puts us in a position to attract players closer to the level that we are letting go.

I hope Levy comes to the conclusion that the timing of letting him go this season isn't what's best for us. Bale won't sulk for a season. He has a strong relationship with AVB, and I'm sure it wouldn't end up affecting his attitude and professionalism.

This... Can you imagine us bidding on lamella (sp) Roma would take us to the cleaners, if we did sell and got 100m levy won't be spending it all on players. Probably under half IMO.

That was an interesting little piece on Sky regarding ManU's last three major signings (20m+). RVP wasn't signed until the day before the season started, Berbatov was deadline day and so was Rooney.

Seems Levy isn't so different after all eh ?

You just ruled out other options.

Who's left with a bit about them? Kyle Walker?

If the money's right I can't see levy saying no. He's a money man and will do what he thinks is best for thfc coffers.

In my onion!

A money man wouldn't sell his most precious asset before it reaches peak value. Bale's stock is only rising.

Was there ever any more ITK on Sanchez and Song? Or was it just the one off.
