If he's a shit defender but can go forward he will be an improvement on anything we have. Personally I think he's better at both ends than anything we have and most of the LB's we've had for a very long time.

He's like the Vertonghen of LBs. He likes to get forward, but he's also got some major skills in defense. He's made some of the most fantastic last-ditch tackles with precise technique. I always loved his style of play and I think with Walker/Coentrao getting into attack we'd just have too much to account for.

I think if we are in for Coentrao then the Francoists would happily deal with us to smooth the path should we be willing to sell GB to them next season, they will not want to burn any bridges having made their intentions quite clear that at some stage they are going to make the move for GB.

I have no problem buying Coentrao and putting in some sort of "leg up" clause for Real Madrid. Something like a set figure for them to meet and leave it up to Bale to stay/leave next season. That way we don't give up on his sale and delay it for a year because if we are super competitive, Bale realistically could decide to stay.

I just don't know if that's really enough of a consolation for RM.

Also I think we can accept a marauding full back if we have a wall of Dembele, Sandro and Paulinho screening our defence.
