Fucking hilarious.

Benteke's agent has played us and Villa like the cheap violins all football clubs are. It's a win/win/win for him. I'm sure if we'd have been prepared to pay over the odds he'd be ours, with triple salary, we didn't so he gets the triple salary to stay, and now even if he has a shit next season he's guaranteed his salary for 4 years.

I don't think Benteke is the all round good thing some others did, certainly not at the price Villa wanted, so I'm not heartbroken. If we could sign a creative type I wouldn't even give a shit if we start next season with no additional striker. In Bent and Adebayor we have two great forwards who have scored/assisted 75 in the last two seasons between them. One of those seasons Bale was still being played on the left wing because our manager was told to by the fucking Shelf.

If we can sign a creative player and also improve one/both our full backs (left is the priority) for full backs that can contribute more offensively we will go a long way to solving a more important problem than one that isn't as desperate as most seem to think. Bale is a forward. Like Ronaldo is a forward.

When do we ever really pay over the odds?

It was win win for Benteke though, it was always going to be. If we didn't meet their valuation he new he would get offered more money, of course he did.

Still think its a gamble to not do anything about a striker though. Great if Adebayor is performing like he did in his first season, not so great if its like last. And what happens if Bale picks up a serious injury in this scenario. Where we getting our goals from if Adebayor is inconsistent? Doesn't bear thinking about Defoe running the show and going through a baron spell to boot.

Regarding Soldado and his release clause, isnt there a rule that the release clause is for spanish teams only and foreign teams must pay a tax on top?

I start to think that it maby wont be a 20m striker we come up with in the end. To be honest we dont have that sort of money to spend on one player and not even close to be ready to spend 100+ in wages. Or we maby have the money but we all know Levy, it wont happend. So i would say keep Ade and Defoe and bring in a Young talented striker that can break thorugh. Use Baldini he have done it meany times before, use Baldinis magic eye and trust it. The Benfica striker that we was linked with for some time ago sounded intresting, Rodrigo i think his name was. And i think that Ade can come back this season stronger than ever, he had a hard seasong last year with injuries and i think the first game against the gooners was a nightmear for him. So i am optemistic and can`t wait for the season to start !! COYS!!!!!!

Why do you have to peddle shit like this? There can't be any sane person in the world who can argue that Harry didn't contribute greatly to Bale's evolution as a player. Either by luck or genius, the move from LB, to LW, to moving off the wing was part of his education.

Not really considering all of the teams you mentioned have better strikers and goal scoring midfields than us...

Don't wish to get into the semantics, but I was just stating the trend of the best teams in the world towards fluidity in the attack.

I used the top teams because they are successful in this era.

Are you saying we should be trying to emulate lesser teams to ourselves?

I dont want to piss on your parade but we just signed a midfielder for nearly 20m, so we do or did have the money for a 20m pound striker:)

Is semantics the new caveat??

Are people seriously considering the question of whether it'd be acceptable for us not to buy another striker this window? What Champions League aspiring club only has two recognized strikers, both of which are coming off exceptionally poor seasons where they were injured, too?

Jermain Defoe, who has always wanted a regular first team position, came out last week and said we needed to bring in another striker! Think about that statement for a minute, please, before you try to defend the indefensible idea that we don't need to add anyone to our front-line.

The idea of spending 17 million pounds on midfielder, and then not bringing in a striker, boggles the mind. I simply refuse to believe Andres wouldn't kick up a huge fuss over such a bone-headed strategic decision, nor do I believe that Levy, with the aid of Baldini, would leave us that short in such a critical juncture again.

This season is absolutely critical to our success going forward as a club. You absolutely do not risk going with just Adebayor and Defoe as our sole options up-front. Even if it's someone like Cisse, who can push for a first team spot; a striker must be added.

Just got up.

Seeing 50 pages in ITK section - was thinking Benteke & Chadli are done. :D

Then I saw the ITK from Fox (n)

Then the news that Benteke has snubbed us and then even bad news that he has renewed his contract to stay with Villa than join any other club. I thought the nightmare was over, only to see that Vilanova has resigned on medical grounds & AVB is the favourite.

Am deflated like a balloon after waking up with a hard-on.....

Today was a pretty rough day as far as offseason days go. I'm sure as you look around some more and catch up on the news, the hits will keep on coming.

Yes but it would not matter, because if we were to offer the same fee as the release clause valencia would likely accept and there would be no need to pay tax etc. release clauses are a logistical nightmare for all, from what I gather, so are only very rarely actually carried out.

You said that top strikers are becoming less of a priority. This isn't true at all and even if it was the teams you posted all have better strikers than us anyway. In terms of match winners we have Bale but who else? Barca have Neymar, Iniesta, Cesc. Madrid have Benzema, Ozil, Isco, Di Maria. Bayern have Ribery, Gotze, Kroos, Mandzukic. etc etc.

OK first thing, have there been an official number that says paulinho went for 20m and if you read the hole sentence insted of trying to be a smartass u can see that I also meantion the wages, what i have heard is paulinhos wages not even near 100K, I think they are around 55-60.

Yup -just saw we scored a blank against mighty Colchester and some rumours about Arsenal landing Bernard.

We are fast becoming the laughing stock of PL.
