People moaning about signing Benteke? FFS get real, he is a great player who has pace, strength, hold-up play, finishing, basically the perfect number 9- something that we've been missing since Berba. Since Dimi our strikers have been Crouch, Campbell, Pav just to name a few and I think it's fair to say they didn't fit the bill. Benteke does.

Even more, he wants a move and although it's only speculation he apparently wants to move to us. Plus Arsenal are after Hig, Chelsea can probably do better and already have Lukaku, City apparently close to Negredo and Liverpool can't even offer Europa league so it would seem we're on our own! He fits perfectly in a 4-3-3 between Bale and hopefully Chadli. Even more, he is realistic! I'd be delighted to get him and I can't imagine the noise I'd make if I see we signed him. I don't see it hapeening unfortunately but for me he'd be our perfect signing. I hope £20m does the job and if it does I think we can push top 3 easy yet some still aren't happy.

Yet this looks lethal to me:
Bale Benteke Chadli

I think some people on here would be disappointed if we signed Messi on a free!

You missed out "in your opinion" many others don't see it that way and fear he'll just prove to be another one season wonder or even if he proves a decent enough striker for a lower level PL club he may well struggle in a better side faced with teams that want to defend deeply and not allow players time and space

Personally of a front three of Benteke, Bale and Chadli the only player I'd want is Bale, fortunately he looks like he will be here next season but I'd be gutted if those two were the players he had to play alongside and I'm pretty sure Bale wouldn't be doing any cartwheels

Benteke or Negredo would be a very difficult one. Both not my favourite choices.

Negredo is more proven but Benteke could it be for many many years.

I'd take Soldado

Negredo and Soldado are some of the most consistent forwards in the world, always liked them, I'm glad we are interested in Negredo. Benteke has advantage because of age, but if Villa won't accept less than 25m then maybe we should look elsewhere.

If we sign Negredo we would still need a goalscorer, he is perfect for City imo

I rather have Soldado as he is more consistent. A player of Soldado/Higuain/Negredo would push us to title contenders imo

I like Negredo; good player in a mediocre team. Might even come at a reasonable price given Sevilla's financial problems and the fact that they've just bought Bacca. Depends on whether Shittee are in the mix though I suppose.

Negredo scores almost one in two games. Not much different from Soldado.

If City is really competing with us, it won't get cheap....

i still can't ever see Del Nido giving us a reasonable price...

Not much to chose between Benteke and Negredo. Think Benteke is less of a risk, even with a higher fee. Settled in this country, proven to score goals in this league, and has a good Belgian core and French speaking players already at the club. And of course for Levy, younger so more sell-on fee potential.

I haven't been following other transfer news very closely but I wonder if Dzeko is available. I'd still very much like him in our team although it's probably unlikely we'll get him.

Button it Sum :)

He just better do the job mate, that's all I'm saying. If he's a donkey for us you might never live it down. Your pro Benteke stance has made me laugh all week. I really hope you're calling it right!! (y)

Negredo turns 28 next month. What sort of fee would he be likely to command anyway? I'm sure Benteke would be much more up Levy's street.
