Bentekkers will provide a very very useful asset - A striker who is in the box. For all of Ade's hallowed "hold-up play" he is never in the frickin' box, so that completely eliminates a whole other route to attacking, namely crosses. This is why, for all of his faults, Dempsey was somewhat useful. He got himself in the box. Tap-ins are goals too. Headers are goals too. We severly lacked that last year, and CB would go a long way to fixing it.

Wasn't me! I agreed with his first post but there was something familiar about his second...
Credit to Ealingspur for his pranking :)

Maybe we aren't giving him enough credit. He did say "I will not stop beating this drum"... perhaps it was intentional?

Jasper on Spurs Od has said Negrado is a possibility...He didn't expand any more than that
Would you mind slinging the exact quote over please? It might be owrthy of a spot in the RO, if nothing else it might stimulate some actual discussion about eyeteekay

Why do people talk about hold up play so much if they think we're gonna play a 4-3-3? the idea of a striker in a 4-3-3 is to be in the areas where he can score, the midfield is flooded enough with players that can hold up the ball, we dont need the number 9 to do it. Thats confused me throughout this entire Benteke discussion, he doesnt need to hold anything up, he needs to put the ball in the net

Yaya won Citeh that title not Silva.

Well Silva did hit 6 goals and 15 assists that season and by comparison Ya Ya had 6 goals and 6 assists

of course football is never as simple as that and Ya Ya contributed strongly in other areas of the game, however a player who contributed a significant part in a large share of their goals was a very important component of that team. By comparison we have strengths, maybe not exactly the same as Ya Ya but similar, but we don't have anyone quite like Silva.

Building a successful team is all about good balance and good options, it's pretty obvious to me we lack enough creative balance but we seem to have decent ball winners and players that can make the drive through midfield from time to time and in Paulinho hopefully a cm who will supply some goals, what we lack is an orchestrator who can carve openings and string the final third play together

I'll nail my colours to the mast: i'd prefer Benteke to Negredo.

Although he only scored like 3 goals less than er... should I mention him... FALCAO last season, and we all know what we'd do if we signed him....

One or t'other Chief Dan, please.

People moaning about signing Benteke? FFS get real, he is a great player who has pace, strength, hold-up play, finishing, basically the perfect number 9- something that we've been missing since Berba. Since Dimi our strikers have been Crouch, Campbell, Pav just to name a few and I think it's fair to say they didn't fit the bill. Benteke does.

Even more, he wants a move and although it's only speculation he apparently wants to move to us. Plus Arsenal are after Hig, Chelsea can probably do better and already have Lukaku, City apparently close to Negredo and Liverpool can't even offer Europa league so it would seem we're on our own! He fits perfectly in a 4-3-3 between Bale and hopefully Chadli. Even more, he is realistic! I'd be delighted to get him and I can't imagine the noise I'd make if I see we signed him. I don't see it hapeening unfortunately but for me he'd be our perfect signing. I hope £20m does the job and if it does I think we can push top 3 easy yet some still aren't happy.

Yet this looks lethal to me:
Bale Benteke Chadli

I think some people on here would be disappointed if we signed Messi on a free!

I hope he's right would be a great signing, I really don't fancy the idea of Benteke either soi a double whammy for me if that comes off, Certainly Emery seems pretty sure Negredo will be off, just a question of where, if City pursue other options we must be in with a great chance

Kind of links in with what the journalist on Talksport said earlier - that we're currently the "favourites" to sign Negredo.
