I agree that he has shown nothing to suggest he can't be good again next season but is he a 25m player?

I like him as a player but 15m is about right surely?
Bent scored 20 for Charlton 2 seasons in a row and was English and still only cost 15/18m
Bit that was in 2007 that we bought him. Increased TV money inflates player's values. Even then we spent a fortnight pissballing Charlton and Bent around after West Ham had agreed the deal.

There are only 2 players in the world that can compete with Bale and were will never get either of them. We do however have a good back up in the form of Townsend.

I agree that we need competition for Lennon though, however Falque has just come back from a successful loan spell and could be the answer. If will be interesting to see how he does in pre-season.

Isn't Townsend better cutting in from the right? That's where he was playing when he impressed at QPR. I think he should prove more than ample competition for Lennon, but the main problem is Bale is playing more and more on the right these days, so we could end up with three right sided players (2 wingers and Bale starting a free role from the right) and no-one to provide width on the left.

Yeah, I can see why people sometimes have this perception about technical ability. It only takes a few great players like the Xavis or Prlos to alter our construct. Having gotten the chance to see Berbatov and Modric, we've seen glimpses of technical football that is on another level. And naturally people like that make your decent technical players look like they are worse than they really are.
Yes. I can still trap a ball further than Dempsey can kick it and that's in a game involving rank amateurs in a public park and played at about 1/10th the speed that it's played at the top level of professional football.

Now that's shit technical ability!

But you're still a better rapper (and one of the American contingent here is going to get very mad at that comment) :D

Yes your right, which is why I said back up to Bale as you rightly said is playing more on the right now. I remember Jol tried Lennon on the left for a few games and he destroyed a couple of teams cutting in but his shooting and passing was abysmal and he was put back on the right.

Lennon has improved a lot since then, so might be worth a try learning how to play there in pre-season. This is if we don't but someone to play there, which if we do would need to be for the 1st team not the squad.

I have quickly checked. The 23 goals that Deuce scored in a season has only been beaten by spurs players TWICE since Teddy and Jurgen's era. As bad as we perceive this man to be because he doesnt have the embeleshment of the flair players we want to see he is still effictive

57 goals in his last 4 seasons for Fulham and us. 18 for the US if you want to know.

not a bad player to have In My Onions

Bitching about Dempsey's technical side is hilarious to me when you've got Diagonal Dawson, Pirouette Parker, a blockhead like Walker, a mentally weak Adebayor, and a selfish Defoe on the side as well. Lennon is barely better than running fast in a straight line sometimes. Yet the guy who scores key goals and works hard despite reactionary criticism and overwhelming negativity is the guy getting the grief.

Yeah but he scored 23 goals at Fulham. That's not the same thing. We are a level above. I bet their top scorer this year couldn't even make our starting....it's who?.....are you sure?.....fucking hell! :banghead: Carry on knilly. But next time it won't be so easy

All the above get criticism too, and a lot of it at that.

For the general discussion.. It was a good post from HappySpur and I agree with the stuff about his mentality. I have said before that his one redeeming quality is that even if he is having a quiet/poor game he always has the bollocks to get himself in the box and in a position to score goals, its surprising how many attacking players don't do this (especially when things aren't going their way).

Still an infuriating player though... :D

I've said all along; I'd be surprised if we would sold Clint as he has helped accelerate our growth in the US. Maybe now we've got more exposure in the states and the ever growing presence of Bale; we've deemed his marketability not a necessity any more?

I'd like to nominate two of Ezekiel, Mitrovic and Bruma. For the millionth time.
Snarf, you always seem to do your research, talk a lot of sense, and know all these players that quite frankly I have never heard of - can you send a list to Baldini to get sorted please?

He's still around. He's been a long standing member here. He had one of those days, we've all had where frustration gets the best of you and your posts come from the gut.

What didn't help was the fact that people fed on this like sharks sniffing blood. We should have recognized that he was having a day like that and cut him some slack rather than having a go. Rather than neg repping him, we could have used the disagree button. Rather than telling him "you're having a mare", we could have stepped away from the thread. He couldn't because sometimes we all get in that mood and can't.

Paolo has times he's up for banter. He can appreciate a good argument. But it took two posts for me recognize that wasn't what was going on with him today. He was mad. Probably won't be tomorrow. So let's respect his past contributions and throw anything said in anger today away. Because there was genuine opinion in there too and that should be respected (you don't have to agree with it though)

edit: I don't think sharks sniff. When I have time, I'll try and look up if they use their electrosenses to sense it or if it's actually smell. Until then, if it is wrong, feel free to make fun of me. Because I would do it to you
I would consider it sniffing, we live in a world of air that we sniff to smell, maybe there's a different scientific term for sharks as they live in water, however it is essentially the same.

Chadli... I know you gave your views but I forgot... Would he improve our first team enough to justify buying him?

I think he's obviously going to take time to settle in. But I do believe he's a realistic option as our LF in the 4-3-3. He's got the size, strength on the ball, decent pace, quality dribbling and produces a quality final ball/shot.

That being said, I do believe he's a Starting XI player if he does acclimate to the EPL. It's always guesswork when a player comes from a inferior league, but he's got all of the physical tools to lean towards him becoming a good player. I'm pretty certain he will do well for us.

I also mentioned that I wouldn't completely rule him out as that utility player that can function in the front 3 positions in a 4-3-3 and all 4 of the forward positions in a 4-2-3-1.
