I'm actually quite enjoying seeing how varied the opinions are on Benteke. To some he's the next Drogba, to others he is the next Michael Ricketts. Rare for a player to split opinion so much although I'd wager that is because of the fee being talked about rather than the player himself.

I'm yet to decide which side of the fence I'm on. I prefer it if he was cheaper but I think he has more about him that a one season wonder.

What I really want is us to find a sub £10m striker and a gifted creative midfielder with the rest.

if last season was season 2009/2010, based on his performance his value will be 7m

if last season was season 2010/2011, based on his performance his value will be 15m

and if last season was season 2015/2016 his value will be 50m

basically its just the going rate for any striker worth his onions, and sadly its going to get worst.

No way Benteke is a smoke screen. The fact that he put in a transfer request all but proves that his agent has been working behind the scenes and there is a team making a move for him. Add that to the fact that JJ has all but confirmed we are the team, I highly doubt that we would go through the trouble of tapping up a player to the point of him submitting a transfer request all as a smoke screen.

I also find this whole "he has only proved it one year in the Prem" crowd laughable. Currently, with our buying power and club stature, we can't afford to wait around for strikers who have proven it year in and year out as their prices double and we get priced out, while the monster clubs in the game go in for them. We also get the "he is not Premier League proven" crowd for foreign strikers, so here we have a foreign player who moved into the league and proved himself his first year, and we are still saying he is unproven. Tough crowd to please. I will say this, there is no sure thing Striker that Tottenham will be able to sign this year, no matter who we go in for it is going to be a massive gamble. I would rather take that gamble on a 22 year old w/ the physical tools of Benteke than an aging player in his upper twenties.

You had me at, "there is no such thing in footballing negotiations as a smokescreen "

Depends whether you class him as a striker:)

Well we all did when we signed him on the back of his loan season. Or at least, there weren't that many complaints.

Rate him or not, it's laughable that anyone could not include him as a striker. He was pretty much the best we could do last year, it's not Levy's fault it didn't work out for him.

I am concerned.

I don't think the SCITK thread should be updated onto Twitter

Its our business and I don't think anything positive is gained by this.

There's an SCITK twitter feed?

That's like that Secret Getaways advert on telly - "ssssh that's just between me and you... AND THE WHOLE WORLD!"

and also their ability to spell.
Oh, right - spelling police out. How does this go.................. not to much real ITK about, lets remind everyone how clever I am.

Yes, I know how petty that sounds. I'm falling into the trap. I'll get my coat, goodnight

Just so I'm up to date, are we not counting Ade last summer as a signing?
1 striker was enough in that window? Leaving us with 2?
Even that transfer was a farce as well. Negotiations took so long he didn't arrive until the season was practically halfway through and wasn't fit til Christmas!

So you are disputing that this club has failed to sign a striker for god knows how many windows?

I'll dispute it

2012: Adebayor, Saha, Deuce
2011: Adebayor, Colibaly
2010: Gudjohnsen
2009: Crouch, Keane, Defoe
2008: Pavs
2007: Bent
2006: Mido, Pekhart, Berbatov

And before you argue quality, you didn't talk about it before.

That is 14 strikers over 7 years or 2 strikers a year. Although to be fair, I included the kid....but we paid a decent amount for him.

What people always do is imprint their desire on our transfer dealings. No, we didn't get who you wanted. We didn't get who I wanted. I doubt we got who Levy, Harry, AVB, anybody wanted. But we got who we could. Because we aren't Leeds and we aren't PSG. We're solvent but prudent. We're a club with financial limitations. So we have only had one real window where we didn't get a striker and that was summer of 2010. And it sucked.

And I realize that this list is a bit of the good, the bad and the ugly. But this "Levy doesn't buy strikers" myth needs to end.

And he could help himself a lot by stopping his own leaks with Leandro, Villa, Spanish Wheelbarrows, Suarez, etc etc etc
