Halilovic's contract will end in january so that's why Dinamo want to sell him now. Same thing with Jedvaj except he wouldn't mind staying in Dinamo for few more years.

Given this fact is it pretty likely that just Jedvaj or both will end up at the lane within the next year?

I am concerned.

I don't think the SCITK thread should be updated onto Twitter

Its our business and I don't think anything positive is gained by this.

I don't get that? Surely they are desperate to tie him/Why would we pay so much if that was the case...?

They will end somewhere, if not Tottenham then Arsenal or some of the Italian clubs. I don't think they will end in City or some similar club because Mamic actually cares about Croatian talent developing well. If nothing else because media would attack him for selling them to some club that doesn't even need them.

Mamic mentioned Tottenham, Barisic said that it was close, so they should end here but you never know. Maybe we get only Jedvaj or none of them. Jasper isn't optimistic, LLM thinks it will be done, who knows...

To be fair though, Dempsey and Defoe scored against a few of the top teams (don't mean to sound like an arse btw). Surely a player who can batter lesser teams is exactly what we need, as we have done for the past few seasons.

I agree with what you say but teams won't play against us as they do against Villa, can't think of many teams that played against Villa and parked the bus :D

Not totally sold on Benteke, it's hard to judge a player on one season, even if it was on a bad side. Normally a striker will have a decent first season as he is an unknown commodity, it's the second season were you really see if he is any good as teams will know all about him. Plus didn't score any of his goals against Man U, Man City, Arsenal or Spurs home or away and only one against Chelsea. 15 million would be a decent price to start at but not a lot more than that.

In a bad side it can actually make things easier for a striker, they have more time and space because invariably sides set out to attack them, top teams far too often have to play against teams who set out to defend deep and pull players behind the ball giving strikers little time or space

I think that we need a far more skilful and intelligent striker than Benteke as it is, but even more so if they are talking the kind of money Villa are seeking. Far too many players have one good season and drop of to want to risk paying a top price for a player that has only shone for one season. Last season the likes of Cisse and Jelavic had excellent first (half) seasons but the summer break, defenders focusing more on them in the new season and coaches emphasising their strengths and weaknesses meant they struggled this season, Grant Holt great first season in the PL and a seasoned campaigner, struggled to get close to that last season, even the quality Aguero struggled to match his first season excellent start. One season can so often paint a very false impression, as can players playing in lower placed clubs because they can benefit from extra time and space

Personally I'd swerve on chasing Benteke and focus on proven strikers that have been regular scorers for a number of seasons like Negredo, Soldado or if there is any chance Higuain, or look for cheaper options that can at least be next seasons new success, at least then we'd have bought at a decent price rather than at a massive premium

Dinamo has couple of replacements for Jedvaj and Halilovic wants to leave (at least media here says that). And we are already in a bidding war for them, which is why they are "expensive". 12.5m euros for Halilovic is not much for him.

What POTL has said rings entirely true, yet still some people want to round on Levy as if it's his fault.
At least he is trying to sign good players.
Ridiculous to criticise him right now.

Been online for about an hour, caught up with lastnight's thread & am now catching up with this one. Obviously got to this post & am looking forward to reading the Levy bashers saying, "but is he really trying to sign them, or is he just stirring up the press to make it look like he gives a fuck"....:cautious:

Does anyone know if Benteke served his full suspension at the end of last season or if he's still got a match to go? Obviously it wouldn't make any difference to the deal either way.

I agree 12 million euros is a good price but in essence couldn't we agree a deal in principle with him where he could just run down his contract for 6 months and join us for free? Or is there laws against that...

I know what one you meant, I was just trying to lighten the gloom :(

I still tried to get some double entendres in my last one also - obviously sailed overhead. Note to myself - "don't be so subtle next time". Must stop, bound to get spams. Cue....

Zoran Mamic said that Dinamo has a way of preventing that. And that they've done it before. Also Dinamo fans would hate him for leaving for free.

After what we've been through with Carrick, Berbatov, Modric and Bale in recent years I'd have thought people would be able to see it from Aston Villas point of view. Benteke is worth £30m or £35m to them because they can't just go out and replace him, to us he's not worth as much but we'll have to get near their price if we really want him. It all depends what Villas board are willing to accept behind closed doors and how much of this is a face saving mission/transfer pantomime.

Personaly I don't care if we spend £40m on a striker or £5m, as long as we think they can get the job done and will fit into the team.

Why is it a concern? Everything ends up on twitter anyway doesn't it?

Villa fans on talksport and on line are gutted about benteke leaving , that's a good sign on how good benteke is imo , would love him in the lillywhite next season

Surely this reflects his importance to villa and not necessarily that he is a very good player - jury's out for me.

Remember when all the talk was for Bernard and we signed Paulinho. All the anti-Benteke brigade can take solace in this.

So you are disputing that this club has failed to sign a striker for god knows how many windows?
