Roses are red, Violets are Blue?

Anyone reckon this could be a Villa cryptic... I've been mulling it all day and it's Barcelona's colours I think.

Am I the first to crack it as I can't see in recent pages

Gards has said that the mystery player is a striker I think!

So a big name striker that will be difficult to get (big name and difficult to get go together). Not Villa as he would probably say so. Soldado, Leandro, Rodriguez?

I hate cryptic and guessing games. If it was a big name surely the name would have got out already. There must be how many people working at the training centre, surely one would have spouted it off down the pub and it will all be over twitter now? Or is that where Gards comes in?

It was confirmed (I think) as just Rose to Sunderland.

He gets criticized when, during the ACN, with an injured Defoe and Adebayor in Africa, we had no strikers. Otherwise, the papers rarely if ever call out Levy. Hence the moniker "teflon Danny". No one is saying spend 30 million or "pull a Leeds/Portsmouth" as every Levyite tends to scream from the mountain top anytime someone points out the clear need for a striker. But in my opinion, a player of Villa's quality and pedigree is available to a club like ours roughly every 15- 20 years (last one being Jurgen). If he is out of our price range, fine. But if it is a matter of 2-3 million, that is simply ridiculous and poor management if it falls through because of that, imo.

Not much if you say it quick, is it? But then, of course, the transfer fee is only a small part of the total package. I can't see Villa coming for less than £100k a week, at a very conservative estimate; that's a minimum of £5m a season. How long is the contract going to last for? Hard to guess, at his age, but surely not less than two seasons with some kind of option at the end. We could be looking at something in the order of a minimum of £25m, which is a hell of a lot for a 31-year-old who's suffered a serious injury, and who will have virtually no sell-on value. We're in a totally different football world from 1994, when we got Klinsmann for £2m and paid him maybe £2.5k-£3k a week (Gazza got £1.5k a week).

The ACN lasted for four games, from which we gained eight points. Two points a game isn't bad, especially when one of those games was against United, and better than the overall average for the season. We could have paid through the nose for some bozo and then had the problem of getting shot of him. And, like everyone else, I have no real idea of what happened with Leandro.

I agree that Damiao is certainly in the 'gamble' bracket, but still think we'll all be saying how close we came when he's picking up the Golden Boot in at the World Cup next year.

Benteke looked like beast, and unplayable on a number of occasion - like Ade in his 1st season with us.
My fear is say we shell out 22million and get '2nd season struggler Benteke', these deals for a big fee for a single season performance are also a gamble.

Hopefully our strikers in this window are Villa +1 , I'm just not sure that Benteke is that 1 !

It's not just potential second season syndrome it's the fact he has been playing for a team who haven't dominated possession, whereas we need forwards who can create their own chances when we play teams that park the bus. Arguably Michu would be less of a gamble in this regard, and no I'm not advocating us signing him.

I wonder if behind the scenes Aston Villa are ok with Benteke going? Last I heard from them on SSN they said he wasn't for sale (I think).

I have never heard of Nacer Chadli (except I think he used to sign for Villa a lot on FM) but he's not David Villa so BOO
Villa is a striker and Chadli is a wide forward so why compare them? We could sign them both and play Chadli Villa and Bale as a front 3 :) Very fluid and lots of goals!

If we are showing other teams players around our training ground then we can stop fucking moaning about our players being tapped up!!!

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the reported money offered to Real Madrid for Jese matches up quite well in regards to Wishkah's ITK, correct?

I'd be curious if any ITK has heard if this interest is real or just crap created out of mud and sticks by the media?
