TBH, I'm still wondering why it's quite so high to begin with. You didn't hear about Inlethorpe getting a big say in signings. I'm sure he had input but TS's profile at the club seems much higher than it should be. Again, just my impression. There are likely valid reasons why that is the case. I haven't seen or heard them yet is all.

So the committee basically went for somebody they could get with very little time left? So because AVB wouldn't budge on his main targets he effectively compromised our position to get better than the likes of Dempsey. Is that the implication?

The point is, Coentrao could be a real attacking weapon, but he likes to bomb into space created by a midfielder who comes inside. It didn't work so well last season because BAE or Naughton don't have any attacking instincts.

I was talking about Sigurdsson.
I'm all for getting a left back who will bomb forward and tear shit up down the left wing at every opportunity, and that the wide player should be cutting inside in support of the main striker.
I don't think long term that's Sigurdsson though, in fact if we switch to 4-3-3 I wonder where exactly he fits in.

If Madrid still owe us £20m for Modric and then took Bale, we can asume that they'd owe us from around £90m to £115. I don't know how much Levy would want up front but it would be a stupid ammount to owe a club. I hate to think whos pension fund that would come out of. Can we be sure that they can afford to pay us back?

But even leaving Bale out of it for a second, Levy would still string deals out if it saved dosh despite being more cash rich this summer.

Also, doesn't it seem like a bad idea to be dealing with Madrid in any way this summer? I am kind of hoping that anytime a call comes in reading "Madrid, Re" or "Perez, Flo" that Baldini or Levy will just let it go to voicemail. And then retrieve those messages on the 3rd of September

Isco was available early in the transfer window wasn't he? Malaga were in deep shit early in the summer so flogged Cazorla and Rondon to ease the finances a little irrc.
I think we chose Sigurdsson over making a real go for Isco... I don't even want to think about it
And Im not even sure AVB was even in charge at this point. Vertonghen and Sigurdsson were 99% done and dusted before he got here.

Exactly. I'm not particularly worried either way, and myself think the chances are very much in our favour that Bale stays with us this summer. Ya never know though. Weeks after coming out and declaring his undying love for us, and less than a yr after signing a new 5 yr contract, Modric did a massive u-turn out of nowhere.
Even without Bale becoming a soulless piece of shit, willing to whore himself out publically for months on end, something could still happen and very quickly. I do think, however, that with AVB and Baldini in place, it will need their agreement. Not in any real sense, DL can do whatever the hell he likes after all, but I think it will influence DL and the other high ups considerably if they are against a move this summer.
