Hahahahahahahahahaha. Priceless reading.

I bet spud was the one who originally came out with the 'Hudd could be the new Pirlo' comment. For football players he is the size of a fridge, face it.

As for ITK, cheers for the info LLM. Im glad to hear that we are seemingly going to ruthless and cull a lot of the deadwood. I suggested it a month or so back and most of the names I wanted gone are mentioned here. I'll honestly be happy if we clear a lot of them out.

As for Fryers that's not surprising, seen 4 or 5 full U21 games since he came in and he has been a great big steaming pile of turd in all of them unfortunately. I'd imagine we will give him some time to prove himself though and see if he can push on and get closer to being in contention for the first team.

@Teddy

Dawkins will be given an opportunity to prove himself he is a personal fav at the club of a few coaches and was very impressive in December 2012 when he returned for training. Really hope he makes it, real deserving person.

Funny story about Dawkins loan to Villa. Villa originally contacted San Jose as nobody realised Dawkins was contracted to us. They then contacted us and asked us for him on a real cheap loan (at this stage Dawkins was due to move back to San Jose permanantly they even had interviews and press conferences complete! You can find these online im sure.) We worked everything out in about 45 minutes as it was against the clock and we were getting a 100k loan fee. After signing him one of their officials said they were ecstatic to get a young right winger to cover injured marc albrighton.

Turns out Aston Villa signed Dawkins off of an internet scouting report! They had no idea he was 25, no idea he was actually a central midfielder and no idea he is left footed! This is why he got so little game time as they did not need a player in that position.

Not as funny as George weahs "cousin" who played under Souness but funny all the same.

Like alot of people have said, it depends on the 11. If it includes the 3 released players and the 2 that have gone on loan to swindon we are almost half way through the 11. On the flip side of this though if it does include these I can see more than 11 being sold or loaned this window
Yep, true that. I'd till be surprised if we managed to get BAE, Hudd, Parker, JD, Ade (particularly this player) and whoever else out the door permanently this summer. That's taking the valid position that includes the already departed players. Still, not exactly impossible I guess.

We'd need another CM to be incoming though, on top of Paulinho. Add to that a couple of strikers, one of whom being Villa. Then a wide player on top. Dismissing the possibility of another CB as well as the LB replacement for BAE.

I mean, all fine in principle but DoF or no DoF, that's going to be next to impossible to pull off in less than 8 weeks.

Adebayor I will happily give everyone a go on my girlfriend if he leaves....never gonna happen. I was there the day he turned up at the hotel after his unauthorised holiday (after the African cup of nations). 6.30pm Marriott hotel, W.A and he walked in the meeting room with a wry smile. The most unprofessional player I have ever come across. Sadly like Bentley we are stuck.

Sigh. Unsurprising, yet massively disappointing.

Any whispers about current plans for forwards? Do they expect Dawkins to make an impression?

Sometimes I get fed up with hearing or seeing gratuitous insults aimed at a particular individual or section of society for no other reason than the person making the comment thinks that it's 'cool' or funny. It's juvenile, it's ignorant, and it stems from the same 'I'm better than you' attitude from which all other prejudices emanate. It's particularly offensive when these comments appear, and are endorsed, on a non-political site which is as generally excellent as SC.

It also reminds me that I am on thin ice when I think of Chelsea fans as neanderthals because I clearly share a football allegiance with a fair few of them here.

So no, I'm not on a wind-up.

So that obviously makes it all right. Bigotry is fine if there is an excuse to use it, however tenuous and inaccurate.

Spud there's an ignore button for a reason, you don't have to listen to what anyone says. You can't worry too much about who you offend when you make a joke, there's always someone who will take offence at it, even if it's a "why did the chicken cross the road?" joke. Think of the poor guy who's pet chicken was tragically run over, who weeps inside whenever it's mentioned. Just put everyone on ignore or take it to the debate forum, that would be quite interesting.

Bring on the ITK!

The fear is that we end up without any cover - each season we end up with an injury crisis of one form or another. If we go for the 2 players for each position plan there is still place for some "utility" backup - e.g. Thudd who can play in midfield or defence (at a push) or Holtby who seems to be able to slot in wherever needed in the mf. If we end up with a great match day squad but have no cover except for the kiddies, we could find ourselves in trouble later on.

Looks like it has kicked off again. Bloody hell, calm down people, it's all going to be ok :)

Good load if ITK today too!

Does anyone else feel a bit indifferent to David Villa? I mean, he's a very good player and will score a few goals for us and I'd be delighted to have him. However, even if we buy him it'll still feel like we're missing something. Our new number 9, to be precise!

It's like going to a restaurant and ordering small lobster salad to start with. Sure, it's exquisitely good but you're left still hungry and wondering whether you'll have enough money for the big steak you came in for.

To be clear, that was an analogy not a fat person joke...

Yep. It started last summer before he'd even signed. Still, I'll be accused of being anti-Ade simply because he played for assnal no doubt.

Funny thing is I doubt any of us are anti-Ade. Nothing would thrill us more than seeing him bang in another 17 goals. History does not favour that scenario, however.

Why would Dawkins get a chance to impress at his age. He's 25 and still hasn't made a single appearance and I don't particularly remember any stories about him doing that great at youth/reserve level or even out on loan.

Surely there's players more deserving of a chance of a PL chance who've done well for the u21s, e.g. Coulthirst, Ceballos, Obika, Kane

I think it has something to do with it not being that funny to start with and it plainly untrue. He's a big guy and is pretty slow but that doesn't make him fat. There are plenty of photos of him with his top off which show him to probably have less fat on him than the majority of people posting on this forum.

Also, I don't think being paid lots of money makes people immune to abuse. Actually I think the secret footballer talks a lot about this fallacy and that many players develop a hate for the fans because of the abuse they give on the field and the perceived fickleness of the fans.

Anyway sorry for this out of topic post. 11 players out sounds highly unlikely unless it counts loans, we need evolution not revolution.

It's OK, 6 of those 11 are Hudd.

Hopefully if we get Villa you'll find that instead of the small lobster you ordered, it actually turns out to be incredibly tasty and filling.

Unless Hudd gets to it first of course.

To call it holiday when your teammates are stuck in a country without any means to get home is harsh, if people actually read why he didn't come back, i think people would change their views. He waited for his teammates to get transport home and when it didn't come he paid for it himself, frankly i would do the same for my mates especially if i was a rich footballer and the rest were trying to find a way home to togo

Thanks for the top info though

Cheers for the info mate.

If I was Dawkins, I'd try and sidle my way back to SJ. Not a bad lot in life that. Earning a decent living doing something you love in a lovely part of the world.

Bloody hell! How some people have a job in football beggars belief. Good to know our sky high subscription monies (see what I done there) is not going to waste.

Just to pick the bones of a few things been mentioned....

In the squad nobody mentions Simon Dawkins who has just signed a new one year contract with the club.

Zeke Fryers sadly I need to make this clear because there is a big illusion that the player is knocking on the door of the first team which is simply not true. Towards the end of the season McDermott, ramsey, mckenna and Sherwood discussed the possibility of releasing Fryers that is how bad he has been. It does not help that he is the highest paid youth player at the club and paid higher than the likes of townsend and Livermore. The boy is such a nice bloke but it just is not working for whatever reason.

The situation with Swindon Town is we have a coach who is good friends with big Kevin Macdonald and we also tried to sign Macdonald as a youth coach after he left Aston Villa. We are looking to loan them players as Macdonald is one of the best for nurturing youth. An unofficial feeding club if you will.
