I agree its unlikely Arsenal will be as touchable as they have been for the past 2 years, they're on the rise and looking to spend to get back in the title mix

It's up to us to respond - its not automatic that they'll leave us behind, Wenger's recent signings haven't always come off and hopefully he'll waste more money (though Higuain would seem a very sound investment)

Every year I hear people say we missed the chance to catch them and they'll leave us behind now - I'll admit its more likely to happen this year, but still its not a given. Let's see who we sign

Also don't forget -

We'll have a team now used to their new manager and his tactics/system etc
several key players who will be more experienced in our league and team (with their team mates etc) i.e. Vertonghen/Holtby
Have Kaboul and Sandro back to form a more solid and settled buffer in front of our goal
Have Lloris in and settled instead of starting Big Brad for several games
Townsend will provide a bit of wing cover which we've lacked (pace from the bench)
Then we'll have to compare our respective signings - they've not completed the Higuain deal just yet and who knows we might just sign Villa

So yea, they're improved from 2 years ago and likely to kick on but hopefully so will we
Not really everything suggests we're going 433 next season which we rarely played last season

Higuain..meh.

I could score goals up front for Real in the Spanish League.

48 appearances 8 goals, 4 assists in the Champions League.

More fool Arsenal ;)

Villa 25 appearances 8 goals 4 assists for Barca in the CL.
That's more like it!
[Lies damn lies statistics etc]

I am actually quite surprised by Hinguains record in the CL that is poor.

Agree. If we can line up with this starting 11
Lloris
Walker ---Kaboul---- Vertonghen---- Assou Ekotto
Paulinho--- Sandro--- Dembele
Bale ----New Striker---- Villa

Or with this as a possible front three

Bale----- Villa----- Bernard/Lamela
Plus our squad players available to come in and perform where necessary, then there's very little to fear from the majority of premiership squads IMO.

Well perhaps you should watch him for yourself and form your own opinion. I don't know how good he'll turn out but I'm prepared to give him his chance. Besides not performing for a team managed by Stuart Pearce is no barometer to judge a player by

Have watched him myself for spurs and Sunderland just not the u21s other than odd game

What makes you think AVB hasn't been working with the squad in training with this in mind to some extent since he got here?

Add a top class left back in there and we're talking!

What makes you think he has?

If it is his vision for the club it would make sense to do so, plus he tried at various stages to implement it during the season but lacked the right player components

not to mention the youth teams have been using it showing its been a clear and distinct part of the clubs thoughts and plans for some time

While these additions will help, the biggest thing we could do to help our chances of attaining a CL spot is to beat the teams we're supposed to beat.

Adding quality will help us get over that hump and finally get us to where we routinely pick up max points with clear-cut victories against the shittier squads in the EPL.

Don't want to answer on Shea's behalf, but the fact that we switched to 4-3-3 on a couple of occasions this season indicates that it is something that we've worked on already...

I don't think AVB would go 'right boys, we're moving to 4-3-3' mid game, without a bit of preparation first.

A composed finisher with intelligent movement would go a LONG way to helping us beat the teams we "should" be beating

If Villa was signed he could well be that man

When people talk about signing a 32 year old as not being an investment, i guess they mean financially, and not taking into account their services where that particular individual might be the catalyst to glory.

Exactly this.

I don't give a flying Fuck how old someone is. I pay good money to watch spurs. And I want to watch the world's best players wearing our kit.

David Villa will do just fine thank you ;)

Villa will be good for another 3 years, especially if we slot him in as the left of a forward 3. He'll have Dembele/Sandro/Holtby et all to do the running for him. Villa at 34/5 will be at least as mobile as VdV was for us.

Even if Villa only has 2 more seasons at the top of his game, it is well worth it in my opinion. Not only is he class and will provide vital goals, but his experience and pedigree will be invaluable to younger players we are developing (and lets face it we have a lot of promising youngsters in the u21s for the first time in a long time). Also will give us time to find a younger long term investment or someone to be Villa's understudy short term while they settle in and develo;,
