I don't like waiting until after the confederations cup to complete these transfers, if the players in question perform well the - asking price goes up, then Chelsea/Man city come along and blow us out the water...

If we're getting shut of Hudd, Parker & Livermore then we need to bring in another CM as well as Paulinho IMO. They don't have to be in the calibre of him but we can't afford to be too light in that area. A couple of injuries again and we're fooked.

From the players we have been linked to, I think we'll go for a box-to-box mid to start alongside Dembele (Paulinho, Guarin) and a backup DM who's young and full of potential (Marrone, Can). Add a striker (Villa, Damiao), a young wing forward (Aubameyang, Bernard), and maybe another prospect or two and I'd be extremely optimistic about next season.

I'm sure we won't get rid of all 3.

Can or Marrone would be OK. Just feel we'll need an extra body in case the worst happens again.

Loving all the optimism (today), but for now I'm not getting carried away. Would love some of this to happen, but will reserve my excitement, at least for a while.

If any of this does happen then I do applaud the club for trying to do something really positive. No one will be able to say we have not at least tried! (y)

Agree, as a 3 or 4th choice cover any of those will be fine - generally they wouldn't need to play as much over the course of the season as our reseves did this year due to significant long term injuires to our first choices

So if 2 of the 3 were to be sold I guess it would depend on the offers that came in for them

With Paulinho, Dembele and Sandro surely we'll need someone who can add a bit of passing ability to the equation. Someone who can recycle posession.

Moutinho was that guy last summer. Is that guy no longer necessary?

Fully behind AVB's choices, just a question really.

i don't really get it either. three strong combative guys but none are really known for dictating play or creating openings.

Why on earth would we want another box to box midfielder? That is Dembele. We need an actual playmaker in there as well. Then I'd still want someone with intelligence in one of the wing positions a la Mata/Silva.

We got Holtby for that creative middle of the park role. Really looking forward to seeing him kick on next season and become the player he can become.

Other clubs may be interested, but the Telegraph article states he has a 17m euro release clause, so the price wouldn't go up.

Holtby needs to slow down. Not in the sense that he needs to stop developing, he just needs to learn how to pace himself. Was trying too hard last season, hopefully we'll tell him to calm down and let the ball come to him. Bags of talent on the lad (and he seems lovely).

I actually think his creativity suffered as he was trying too hard

He has tons of ability. You watch him flourish after that first goal

Agree totally with this. The first couple of games he came on as a sub he was linking up play excellently, trying deft flick ons and through balls. He really looked a creative player to me. Then we gave him a couple of starts in the behind-the-striker role and he didn't look as creative, getting lost in the game as he was trying to do too much, essentially chasing shadows.

Near the end of the season we saw him come on a couple of times in a deeper, central role which seemed to suit him a lot more. He's got all the energy a centre mid needs and he's definitely got some guile about him. His time with Schalke and the Germany U21s has shown that. If he can keep a cool head and learn to read the EPL a bit better then he'll be a brilliant player.

I think so too. Adjusting to prem and still buzzing he was just trying to impress. After a decent pre-season he's going to be excellent. I'm glad we got him in January to give him those few months.

Is he a starter though? He's been touted as a utility man by some ITK and it does feel that way.

Mata, Carrick, Cazorla, Silva. The clubs we'll be competing with all have a proven creative influence in midfield.

Again I'll reiterate that I trust AVB, I just think that that player is still very much lacking from our squad.

Unless, of course, big things are expected of Tom Carroll next season. That is a huge step for him though, to match the above mentioned players and be a regular starter.

Siggy could probably do a job there. His distribution at times this year was beautiful, ran the game against Arsenal.

We won't give Carroll the chance to be our creative player. AVB doesn't seem to trust youngsters
