That's naive.
Those 3 clubs all have new managers; no guarantee of success.
Doesn't matter what anyone else does, if we improve say 5 points then we'll be in that 4; maybe we might not even need to improve! Surely Villas Boas has that amount of improvement in him given a clear run, a settled system & a couple of players?

I guess it's about opinions I cant see anything different from those three plus isn't it naive to think we might not need to improve of course we do cos we have failed in the last two seasons.

13 pages and my mind is seriously blown at the lack of patience some fans show. Its not even July and you're all already crying because we don't have a striker yet  Atleast wait for the window to open before you start blasting our manner of business.

We have a wage cap, We have a transfer limit too, and I for one would like to see 4/5 signings in the 5-10 million pound range of potential and future value too or even a seasoned vet like Villa to end of his last few years with us. This not only shows ambition to the fans now, but also the promise of a bright future for our squad. Leandro can't be bought for that kind of money, but the likes of Bernard, Agirretxe, Rodrigo can be.

Levy has been chairman for a few years now you should all be ashamed of yourselves you know better than to believe this man will do business early, I merely believe he does business when the time is RIGHT, whether that be at the end of the window or the beginning I accept Levy's judgement on finance and our club's future to be way superior than mine. Give it time and things will get done accordingly.

City, Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Liverpool will be spending and adding to their squads and that's all good and well for them, but I want signings that will actually IMPROVE our squad and not just be a simple addition to it.

I have no doubt in my mind that we will sign the players needed to keep both AvB and Bale happy its just up to Levy as to when this happens.

You just presume that everyone else will improve and we won't!
Very fatalistic...
Simple fact: mid to high 70s points gets Champions League. Why not us next year?

70 plus points may well get a spot I don't disagree with you but 4/5 other teams IMO will be above us not defeatist just realistic.

Last post on this but there are only so many points to go around, everyone can't improve.
For us to end up lower in the league table we would most likely have to regress & I see no reason for that to happen since we're likely to reap the benefit of stability through Andre's second season, we have the best player in the league, we might have a striker and we are on a clear upward curve.

I disagree slightly as Vermaelan would come in as a second choice LCB, I heard Adams speaking about Vermaelan years ago and he said he felt he was always a better LB than a CB
Vermaelen is not going to join a team to be second choice, especially when there's a WC coming up and the national coach emphasizing candidates have to get enough game time for their club side. For that and other reasons I cannot see him join us.

This really is not the time or place but I was/am going to start a thread about how we need to achieve CL qualification ie. 72+ points next season. In reality that's 2 points per game or just under over the complete course of the season. In order to do that we need to emulate last season - you know, win at United, draw at Chelski etc and also win a couple more of the easier ones. Can we actually do that? It would have to be one hell of a season. Away from home we actually won 10, drew 4 and lost 5 - home 11, 5 and 3.

Where we pick those points up over last season will of course be a easy :), but we could equally well lose others just as easily - I for one do not expect us to win at OT.

Jair - you make it sound all so simple.

I think we all need to be a bit more patient...if you were an agent for a high profile player looking for a move for your client, you aren't going to jump at us...not saying that we aren't a good proposition but if you want your 10% there are probably 10-20 more appealing clubs in European football where the potential earnings are higher and also the prospects of competitive success..

I love Tottenham but I love my kids more and their future financial security would be upmost in my mind when making a decision that will effect my income for the next 3-5 years...so whilst the rich clubs are still deciding where to spend there is no point in jumping early and potentially reducing your future income.

After the big boys have spent then there are those players who are potentially displaced that become possibilities.

There are exceptions similar to Edgar David's...he wanted to play for us and could afford to due to previous financial rewards and career success...hopefully Villa could fall into that category.

In summary chill...our time will come and we will improve...just don't expect it all to be done in June

Well looks like the £20 donation to SC I offered if we signed anyone by the return of my holiday tomorrow afternoon is safe. But don't worry A&C will make a donation by the close of the window.

Must resist......Must resist........:D
The situation this year is a little different from past years. Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea all have new coaches. Each team will need to settle under Management. Spurs are settled with their coach. Even with incomings the team will be more settled than the competition. More than ever Spurs need a good start to the season. It could make all the difference to the order in which the challenging teams finish.

With all that in mind, surely this is the time to set the team early? That means no more so-called "Levy time".

Transfers need to be completed early. This would gives Spurs an advantage over the competition.

Timing is vital.

Now is not the time to penny-pinch...

City, United, Arsenal & Chelsea all will improve. But key thing is how much of their actual new signings will be improvement to their first XI ? Most of these crazy spendings are going to improve their squad competing in 4 competitions. Only Arsenal really have a XI to drasitically improve. Liverpool - lets see their squad after window shuts.

If you see our XI there is a noticable hole in midfield(a playmaker), and a even bigger hole in striker. Whoever we are going to buy hopefully fills those spot and give us the improvement we need. Obviously other teams would have edge over us interms of a deeper squad. But the least we can do is to buy fill the 2 spot and hope we can have injury free & consistent campaign.
